Has Hillary become the George Wallace of the Democratic party?
I simply can't stop thinking about the parallels with Hillary and George Wallace.

I was a child when that race was going on, which will give you a clue of my age. But Damn it, I remember that race.

I remember it tore the hell out of the Democratic Party because of the times. The results will be different this time, no doubt.

For those of you who remember, didn't George Wallace play the race card to get white Democrats to vote for him?

And what I find so ironic, is that Hillary and Bill where on McGoverns side at the time, fighting the racist bull shit.

Man, What happened Hillary? Honestly, what the hell happened?

1. greed arrogance... from Wikipedia on G Wallace:
Democratic presidential primaries of 1964

Using the segregationist image created by the University of Alabama controversy, he attempted to win national office in the United States presidential election, 1964. He ran on an "outsider" image, opposition to civil rights for blacks, message of states' rights, and "law and order" platform. In Democratic primaries in Wisconsin, Maryland and Indiana, he won a third of the vote in each.

It's VERY NICE to note that Obama won Wisconsin and Maryland by large margins - essentially 60/40, and would have won Indiana if not for CHAOS (hmmm, does that make him the man from U.N.C.L.E? See, you are not the only one showing her age!).

Also on Wikipedia it says he ran for Prez FOUR times--I didn't remember all of them, but he was a disgrace to the ideals of the Democratic Party.

2. I am ashamed to admit it, but I remember helping my uncle hand out George Wallace literature. Many
of my relatives were from the south, transplanted Hillbillies living in Chicago at the time. They all voted for old George. My how the times have changed.

4. Actually, Wallace was the last gasp of what the Democratic Party used to be
I had started to write a long history of the Democratic Party, but you can do your own research. Suffice to say that for nearly all of its almost 200 years in existence, the Party has been strongly racist. It was the party of choice for Southern slaveholders and for decades it officially endorsed the forced relocation, even the genocide, of North America's indigenous peoples. Those positions did not begin to change until after WW II, and remained firmly in the south until the mid 1960s, where the Democratic Party firmly -- and sometimes violently -- opposed civil rights for blacks as violations of state sovereignty. George Wallace was actually quite mainstream.

3. No - she is just desperate and working all the angles -
even ones that do not reflect her true feelings about minorities.

I do not think she is a racist - but is fearful that the rest of America is to the point we will lose in the GE. Raising the issue in the manner that she has is just a mild taste of what is to come.

What she does not realize is that Hillary Hatred (not really her fault) is even more potent in the electorate than racism in driving voters to vote for the Geezer or to stay home.

It is very sad that this campaign has led her to behave like Rove, working the edges to win at nearly any cost.

I have supported Obama since Edwards dropped out - because he is the future and as talented and knowledgeable as Hillary is --- she is the past.
