Lets come up with a list of McCain bad traits
He's the real enemy. Clinton is a non factor now. So let's get really churlish and political. Americans are superficial when it comes to candidates (not a few disappointing folks were swayed against Gore and Kerry due to "earth tone suits" and "looking French".

So let's start.

McCain is very old. We're talking Mezozoic period kind of old.

He is rather short in appearance. He may not BE very short....but he looks it. Probably framing against REALLY tall guys. but for my purposes....HE'S SHORT.

Speaking of short. What about his temper? He calls his wife profane names. He calls kids in his audience jerks. He has blown gaskets in many senate meetings. Some senators feared for their lives.

He has cancer. Well, maybe not. It's possible it was 100% removed and there's none yet...but you never know. If there are even a few mutated cells....he could be living and walking cancer patient at this moment. Is that what we want to lead our country? No.

He is mentally unstable. This goes to more than his temper. He was mentally broken into many pieces while in Vietnamese camps. Yes, his service to his country was honorable. But in the end he broke. And he carries a fragile psyche these many years later.

He sounds bored, deflated, and tired when he speaks. I stopped taking Lunesta now that I have tapes of his speeches to put me to sleep. Do we want a grand orator? OR old gramps telling another one of his monotone stories about when he was a kid and they didn't even have wheels yet.

His four square support of Bush's failed and ILLEGAL WAR. He wants to franchise this illegal war of choice that has made us left safe and started us into the recession to continue. He wants to strike Iran. He wants to strike Syria. He's even twitched a little and sometimes acted like he wanted to bomb France. Is that what we want? 100 years of war in Iraq? and then more conflicts elsewhere?

His budget that even a basic business manager could tear apart as fantasy.

His coke snorting wife.

His connections to lobbyists.

on and on and on and on.........

2. His base dislikes him intensely.....and therefore, he has no GOTV
Edited on Sat May-10-08 04:40 AM by FrenchieCat
as he will have to accept Public Financing....and will be forced to denounce every attack made on Obama. If he doesn't denounce forcefully enough, and can't control 527s, the question the Obama campaign can ask is how can McCain be a "leader" when he can't even control his base?

unless Hillary supporters decide they prefer NeoCon House parties with the likes of Lieberman, McCain and Scalia.

Hemorrhoid medicine absolutely disappears in towns he visits. Not sure why, strange huh?

on edit: snark aside, he is no friend to the hand-gun owner....check out Gun Owners Of America (GOA) and their take on Senator mcCain: http://www.gunowners.org/mccaintb.htm

5. He repeatedly calls everyone "friend"
It's the least of the problems with McCain, but it bothers the hell out of me.

6. Laundry lists are bad, that tactic failed miserably with Bush
Better to fine 1-3 really good ones and stick with them. That's what the repukes have done effectively in the last 2 elections.

12. agreed. number one is Bush 2.0. uggghh!!!!
number 2 is age. many normal folks who blindly vote Republican have mentioned that to me.

number 3 is temper/unstable mentality. yes, I am not above fear mongering. who wants that crazy cat in charge of our armed forces and further fucking up our economy?

8. While I think many of the old jokes are hilarious I think it could be a dangerous thing to use.
The elderly are very active politically, and I for one would rather not alienate those on the fence over my desire to get a laugh. I'm not saying we can't make some jokes about it and have a good chuckle, but as a tactic it must be used wisely.

As for the rest of it...carry on.

10. If he says, "My friends" just one more time
I'm gonna lose it. But aside from that . . . why won't his wife release her tax returns? Exactly what was his relationship with a certain female lobbyist? Why won't he back Jim Webb's version of the G.I. Bill? Is he against torture? He voted against making Dr. King's birthday a national holiday. A 100 years of war. Gas tax holiday. Doesn't understand the economy. And most important: his plans for the Supreme Court.
