Grow the movement for Barack in West Virginia!
http://my.barackobama.com/page/contact/splash/callwestvirginia

The West Virginia primary is May 13th and we need your help to identify Barack Obama supporters and encourage them to Vote Early!

http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/stateupdates/gGB9c7

This weekend, grassroots supporters in West Virginia and across the country are working to Get Out The Vote in the final push before Primary Day. We're fighting an uphill battle in West Virginia, but by ensuring that all of our supporters make it to the polls, we can add to our delegate lead and continue to close in on the nomination.

----------

We can do this!! We can help Obama add to the delegate lead so that there is a greater chance that Clinton will exit the race before the convention! They need your help so please use your phone!

GOBAMA!!!

1. Obama supporters please stop posting in the distracting threads.
Clinton is not going to exit before May 20 no matter how many times you say it is over.

Your time is MUCH better spent on the phone in my view.

What the hell? Louisville is not so bad. I am trying to get someone to go with me. My usual partner-in-crime says hell no. And this time I will be better prepared. These folks on this board have given me some great ideas for polling place cards.

20. Obama has next to no chance in WV
And no, that isn't a plug for Hillary, it's just the harsh reality.

McCain will win WV in November regardless, sorry to say.

25. Facts beat cliches
You very clearly have no idea what kind of mentality Obama is facing in West-by-Gawd-Virginia.

Some not-so-tasty morsels from the denizens of WV:

"I'm not yet convinced that Barack Obama is more substance than fluff," said Clyde M. See Jr., a former Democratic speaker of the West Virginia House of Delegates and two-time gubernatorial candidate who heads a small law practice in Moorefield, the county seat. "He's a fine speaker, mind you, but I'm still not sure he's got the right stuff to win the general election."

The concerns of party members who live amid this rolling landscape of soybean fields, poultry plants and retirement cabins mirror those of many white Democrats nationwide: Some fear voters will be turned off by Obama's black heritage. Others, they say, will find reason to doubt his patriotism or will perceive him to be an elitist.

It remains unclear how racial unease will factor into election-day decisions come November. Those hidden impulses are elusively difficult to capture in polling. But seasoned Democratic players here reckon that some racially tinged voting will inevitably occur far beyond Hardy County's cresting hills.

and...

Silliman and his wife, Carmen, are Clinton supporters, drawn by her healthcare plan and her endurance on the campaign trail. Still, the couple repeatedly have found themselves defending Obama, correcting acquaintances who relay baseless rumors about his name and religion.

Carmen Silliman has collected a sheaf of poisonous e-mails that have flowed into her in-box. "We do not need a Muslim to lead the good ole USA," reads one. Obama is, in fact, a Christian.

Neil Gillies, an Obama supporter who runs a local environmental nonprofit group, glumly recounted the gibes that his wife, a schoolteacher, hears regularly from her students. "They're convinced is a Muslim, a terrorist, a guy who's coming to take away their guns," Gillies said. "It's just sad."

My advice is to let these poor souls writhe in their ignorance, and concede this state. Since Obama will ultimately wrap this up soon, why waste the money or time?

26. "cliches" you got it all wrong. Its about closing the gap, not being scared and not trying
Its not always about who wins. In WV case need to close the gap so it wont be a blow out of over 15 points.

27. It's not a gap
Unless you define 'gap' as the distance between the sun and Pluto. 'Yawning abyss' would be my diplomatic assessment.

It's okay if he concedes WV. After all, haven't we been told over and over that he has this wrapped up, and that he is inevitable, mathematically certain, etc.?

Save your money and firepower for that insane tiger-cage refugee from the other side.

38. A comforting myth
But a myth nonetheless.

Some states are more equal than others, and some don't count for beans.

There is nothing wrong with us writing off WV. The Republicans have similar odds against them in California and Massachusetts, to name a few of many. We can also write off Utah, Idaho, and a few other trogdolyte states in our column. The electoral map analysts break it down fairly well.

32. Because WV is a New Deal coalition state. Don't you care about the New Deal? No?
"I'm not yet convinced..." that is a classic racist tic. Ignore the people like that and go after the ones who care about saving the New Deal (which more than half of the party OUTSIDE West Virginia does NOT care about, e.g. the colossal yawns emanating about the destruction of welfare and public housing for the "undeserving poor" here on DU.)

36. I have always loved the lack of reading comprehension here
Or better yet, confusing the message with the messenger.

I am just as disgusted with the comments of those WVers as you are. I held them up as an example of why Obama doesn't have any traction in WV.

The New Deal is all but dead, and has been since Reagan. I myself am in favor of the New Deal II (which would be infrastructure, education, and healthcare-oriented), but that isn't going to happen in 500 years. With the lobbyists, media, and 'think-tanks' running things, getting a compliant, fearful, and fractious populace behind them... well, we're fucked. We can get SOME of these things done, but we can't legislate ignorance out of existence. If only.

The Audacity of Realism.
