Something you should know about WV
Edited on Tue May-13-08 10:13 AM by ProSense
"Barack Obama may have to write off West Virginia come November," said David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center. "In 2000, Al Gore won seventy-two percent of West Virginia Democratic Primary voters and lost the state’s general election to George Bush by six percent; in 2004, John Kerry won sixty-nine percent of West Virginia Democratic Primary voters and lost the state’s general election to George Bush by thirteen percent. If Barack Obama can’t even garner thirty percent of West Virginia Democratic Primary voters, what does that say about the West Virginia general election?"

(emphasis added)

Summary: The primary isn't the GE.

Despite the dig at Obama, these facts blow Hillary's electability argument out of the water.

Edited to add link in original.

2. Every Thread You Have Started Slamming Obama Has Been A Dumb Argument...
It hasn't slowed you down though. Enjoy your WV "victory" today, meaningless as it is.

5. No one is going to admit that the dynamics in WV may have changed
since the 1990s, as long as denying the realities keeps Hillary's argument alive.

7. Umm...??? I don't start threads "Slamming" Obama
The worst thing I ever posted was his direct quote from 2005 saying that he was NOT going to run for the presidency or vice-presidency in 2008.

Gee, I am a MONSTER.

8. So they voted for the candidate because he was on his way to winning?
What about 2004?

Then what happened in the GE? That's the real issue, isn't it?

9. Kerry had a few gaffes that hurt his standing with poor, white voters.
Simple as that.

From the windsurfing to the cussing at his Secret Service protection while on holiday.

4. not just a dumb argument, it shows the general state of the state
they elected Bush twice, which says a lot about the state.

Even after 4 yrs of crap, even MORE of them voted GOP in 2004. The only conclusion is that the total lack of college education (lowest # of grads in the country), the limited educational support throughout the state, the poor economy (lowest net income in the country), worst health care system, highest numbers of people without electricity or piped in water, the list is pretty scary.

of course they will support the GOP and Hillary. First, Hillary's their kind of people. And second, they actually believe the crap that the GOP feeds people, not knowing voting for them is against their best interest.

10. There is only one thing that would stop WV from going Repub:
if WV voters perceive McCain to be a lousy candidate.

16. Exactly
Like California is going to vote for McCain because Hillary won it. There is not chance in hell that CA will go R and there is an equal chance that WV will go D. It's such a stupid fucking argument.

15. My ties to West Virginia
Robert Harper (Harper's Ferry) was a great, great, great uncle on my mother's side

In 1751, Robert Harper was given a patent on 125 acres (0.5 km²) at the present location of the town. In 1761, Harper established a ferry across the Potomac making the town a starting point for settlers moving into the Shenandoah Valley and further west. In 1763, the Virginia General Assembly established the town of "Shenandoah Falls at Mr. Harper's Ferry."

On October 25, 1783, Thomas Jefferson visited Harpers Ferry. He viewed "the passage of the Potomac though the Blue Ridge" from a rock which is now named for him. Jefferson was actually on his way to Philadelphia and passed through Harpers Ferry with his daughter Patsy. Jefferson called the site "perhaps one of the most stupendous scenes in nature.”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harpers_Ferry,_West_Virginia

My Grandfather on my father's side was a poor coal miner in West Virginia and Kentucky
during the coal mining wars of 1900-1910, he had a 6th grade education, was a bigoted, xenophobic
but lovable old coot who died of black lung disease.

Growing up in Virginia, my dad would take us camping in the fall, up
on the Seneca Creek, West Virginia, on some land that his friend farmed.

My point is ...... Ease off on West Virginia..
