actually, there are many states like that, unfortunately I don't live in one of them. Instead, I live in a state where I have to cringe whenever we have an election. This is my home and my job is here, but it must be nice to actually live in a state you can be proud of culturally and politically.

2. I'm from Vermont which is the 2nd whitest state in the country after Maine
both went for Obama. And in Vermont we held a primary, and Obama won by 21 points. And I am proud of Vermont. We take the lead in many political areas. We're small, but we have something to say.

3. I'm in Vermont. It's OVERWHELMINGLY white and in the Obama win column.
Appalachia is a full step behind even the deep south. It doesn't help when the democratic candidate is telling you those kind of views are ok, though. Shouldn't we be better than that? ALL OF US? EVEN HILLARY?

4. Yup - white folks aren't all the same, thankfully. Those in WV and KY are "special".

8. Well, we have our own vile racists in the Pacific Northwest too.
Most of them are Republicans or radical white supremacists though.

13. Idaho has some interesting political currents
There is a huge streak of economic populism there. I know Republican teenagers there that know (and sing!) all the old Wobbly songs. I can tell you that the only teenagers here in liberal Seattle that know about the IWW are the ones who were paying attention in History class, and Seattle had some of the biggest labor demonstrations of that era.

Of course, somewhat paradoxically, that populism exists alongside a Reaganesque small-government libertarian viewpoint.

10. It seems to be
more of an issue of education than race.

I'm amazed that Hillary touts the support of the large percent of uneducated white folks.......

11. North Carolina -- we do appreciate the Mason Dixon line in Indiana
As if the double digit victory in NC for Obama didn't mean a thing.

:hi:

I feel like we made the leap first and let everyone know (especially African-Americans) that it was OK to go for it.
