http://www.pbs.org/weta/washingtonweek/transcripts/transcript050908.htmlMR. VIQUEIRA: ...Barack Obama has been on the Hill, so famously yesterday going into the House chambers -
MS. IFILL: Tell me a little bit about it because that was highly unusual to see a Senator on the House floor being treated - this is a cliché now, but literally being treated like a rock star with autographs being asked for by Hillary Clinton supporters on the floor of the House.
MR. VIQUEIRA: Yes.
MS. IFILL: I'm not making this up. You were there.
MR. VIQUEIRA: I was there. I was up in the press balcony watching it. There was actually one member, Tim Ryan of Ohio, who held up his cell phone camera and started clicking pictures. (Laughter.) The pages were rushing over to get autographs. Hillary Clinton supporters were slapping him on the back. There's an undecided member of Congress, chairman of the Budget Committee, John Spratt from South Carolina. Barack Obama saw him and sort of did a modified genuflect towards him. (Laughter.) Saw John Murtha of Pennsylvania, a Clinton man, and they talked for quite some time. It really was sort of a conquering hero moment. It took everybody by surprise.
snip------near the end:
MR. VIQUEIRA: ...And again, I get back to that visit from Capitol Hill yesterday where Senator Obama came out of his townhouse after meeting with many of these blue dogs and conservative Democrats. And they walked this - they had this two block walk in front of the cameras to the United States Capitol up New Jersey Avenue, if you're familiar with Washington, D.C., and these folks who are uncommitted who do come from conservative districts where Senator Obama is not the best fit, were jockeying for position to get in camera range next to the senator. It was like they were coming down the stretch at Pimlico.
I guess it's not just the regular people who are excited about Obama.
