WV Primary: 50% of voters say Obama shares Rev. Wright's views
Yeah, 50%. Way to represent for your state WV. If only they had done some follow-up questions like, "Which specific views does Obama share with Rev. Wright?" Or maybe, "Name 3 views that Obama and Rev. Wright share." Also, "Do most blacks share the same views as Rev. Wright?" If they had asked those types of follow-up questions, a world of bigotry might have been unleashed.

29. You are wrong
Obama is quite educated and ignorance had nothing to do with Obama staying with Wright for 20 years.

Please educate yourself.

33. Well - Mr. Smarty pants - why don't you educate us by answering the
questions in the original post:

"Which specific views does Obama share with Rev. Wright?" Or maybe, "Name 3 views that Obama and Rev. Wright share." Also, "Do most blacks share the same views as Rev. Wright?"

the fact that 50% of people still think that after obama's speech where he disavowed wrights comments is ridiculous.

39. he disavowed wrights comments
comments vs views may be complex for an elitist but simple folks get it.
It's apparently difficult for some to see which posting a post references.

I don't feel that Appalachia is any better than where you hail from but isn't any worse.

47. OK I'll play your silly game
Fifty percent of those asked said Obama shares the views of his pastor. That would require them to know what is in his mind. An educated person could reasonably "suspect" that Obama shares Wright's views. But a dumb person would be able to say so with certainty. But it is actually deeper than that.

Human beings are not, as many think, perfectly rational creatures. Generally, we make up our minds then rationalize a logical path to back up our decisions. Sometimes the evidence is a little flimsy. In this case I believe it is fair for others to call you out, and ask you to substantiate your claims.

Wright is Wright. Obama is Obama. Bill is Bill. Hillary is Hillary. Sins are non-transferrable.

8. Which views
Indeed that might have been a good follow up question since Wright has a lot more views than we deserved 9/11.

I'm sick of pandering to the white bigot vote. Fuck 'em. Let them change their registration to Republican. If this is what we have to do to win elections then screw it.

Let's build that bridge to the 18th century. Go for it. See where it gets you. See where it gets us.

23. Obama's lack of campaigning there
along with these exit poll results is an encouraging sign. It goes to show that this is what a lot of people think about Obama BEFORE he comes into their state. It reinforces his argument that he can win PA in the fall election.

Some things can't be changed overnight, and I don't have any quick-fix solutions. I'm a black man who lived in Parkersburg, WV for 1 year in my early 20s. Some people have just grown up being taught that 'different IS deficient', so it's not easy to abruptly change those views.

He speaks truth, the truth hurts sometimes. The truth needs to be told, that's why Michelle and Obama went there for 20 years.

40. And a follower of the Palestinian Radical, Yeshua bin Yusuf!
Edited on Wed May-14-08 03:34 AM by Leopolds Ghost
Radical Palestinian Cleric, Yeshua bin Yusuf

(reconstruction based on witness reports --
actual appearance not known)

This radical cleric sought to immerse Christian children in dihydrogen monoxide.

Obama claims this all happened long ago, before he was born...
but that does not absolve him of the radical statements made
by his religious leader!

As recently as 2001-2005, the radical cleric Yeshua bin Yusuf
was blamed for the devastation witnessed on both the World Trade
Center and New Orleans! Bush Administration sources claim to
have direct testimony, compelled by unknown means, that bin Yusuf
was angered by the "level of sin" in our country.

(Tip O' The Hat to Occam Bandage) ;-) :hi:

42. You can mock them all you want, but there's no denying that this spells trouble
for an Obama candidacy.

Dowd had a little more detail on the exit polling:

Interviews with West Virginians leaving the polls showed some profound weaknesses that could haunt the Illinois senator in the fall. More than half said they would be dissatisfied if Obama was the nominee. Half believe he shares the views of the Rev. Wright, and more than half said he does not share their values. More than half also said that he is not honest and trustworthy. Just under half of the Clinton voters said they would not support Obama in the fall.

Obama may have started the primary season with an inspiring win in 94-percent-white Iowa, but he is winding it up with a resounding loss in 94-percent-white West Virginia.
