How sweet will it feel if Barack Obama wins the Presidency in November?
For me, it would be the ultimate victory in so many ways.

It would be a victory over the guilt-by-association Wright "controversy" that was manufactured by right wing talk radio and the right wing smear machine. It would be a victory over the gullible people who allowed themselves to be swayed by such nonsense.

It would be a victory over racism.

It would be a victory over those fairweather Democrats who refuse to support him in the GE if he gets the nomination..not because of his stances the issues, but because of a silly primary grudge.

I'm not feeling optimistic about the GE these days. However, if things do end up going our way, I will savor every damn minute of it!

3. WHEN, not if
Don't let WV get you down. There are tons of supporters out there for Obama, and there are lots of us who will work hard to get him elected, me included. When the choice is more of the same, or a chance to change the fundamental workings of the fed gov't, I honestly believe our party will have the advantage in the end. We have a fabulous candidate, even if some people aren't ready to accept a minority in office, many WILL be ready. Believe!

7. I think it will be a turning point for the country.
A complete and final break with the politics of race and also the rise of a new generation that is concerned about people based issues.

I read this book back about ten years ago called the Fourth Turning. For the most part it was psuedo psycho babble but it did make a point of how there are four generational traits that cycle out over 80 years or so. I think it's a little bit longer, in fact I think we are in for a titanic shift in culture that will leave America totally different and much better prepared to march further into the rest of the 21st century.

This is the first time in a very long time that I wished I was yonger to see what is going to come of this election.

11. Visualize it!
Maybe this is kind of woo-woo (or kind of 'ooga booga smooga wooga') but it can't hurt, can it? And it'll make you feel good.

Picture him taking the Oath of Office. (Maybe he'll take Dick Durbin's suggestion and do it at the Lincoln Memorial - it'll be very close to Lincoln's 200th birthday!)

Picture the Inaugural Ball - Stevie Wonder playing, him dancing with Michelle, Sasha and Malia being such beautiful little ladies in pretty dresses.

Picture him giving the first State of the Union address - the first one in 8 long years that will sound good in our ears, from someone who knows and respects the Constitution, the language, and the public intelligence. (Should be a given, sure, but we don't appreciate such things until we've been deprived!)

13. sooo sweeeeeet!
I'm really excited about it. If anyone can turn the direction of government, it's Obama. If there's anyone who will turn government further the wrong direction, it's Hillary.

16. I don't know
if I can put into words what it would mean. To see this country come so far in my lifetime. To realize what this will mean for black people, particularly black men; nothing would ever be the same for them. No one would ever be able to take that away from them. What a blow to cynicism, to hopelessness. And what it would do for America in the eyes of the world! All the terrible damage of the Bush years would be partially healed, just by his election. The long downward spiral we have been on for so long would be contradicted by that one great sign of progress.

Buck up. Keep in mind, Obama's 26% contains more individual votes than McCains 76%.

18. Doubly sweet because of my dad.
My dad is 87, and is very excited that Obama will be our nominee, and next president. He says then he can feel like he'll be leaving the country in good hands for his grand, and great-grand children as they move forward into the new century.

So it would be doubly sweet for me to see my dad happy, and have President Obama in the White House!

19. It means so much more to me...
Most of the people that "know" me see a heavy layer of sarcasm, which surrounds an even thicker layer of cynicism, all of that wrapped around a creamy nougat of bitterness and anger. What a small number of people (they can be counted on one hand with more than one finger to spare) know is that there is one small molecule of hope somewhere in there. It's a hope that there is some reward for being the good guy and doing the right thing; that if you play by the rules and hold true to what you believe, that one can win out over the sell-outs and those that never had a soul to sell. An Obama win in November means vindication for every principle I've ever held on to. Call me a cultist if you will, but Obama winning the GE means, to me at least, that I've been doing the right thing for 30-something years by standing up and speaking out for what I believe in.

22. The fact that Obama supporters are using the word "IF" about winning in November
just goes to show the persistently high level of uncertainty with regard to Obama's ability to defeat John McCain in the general election.

24. Not only will Obama win in November
He'll probably pick up some formerly red states. If he sticks to his 50-state strategy, he'll probably trounce McCain. I even think Obama will win the South (Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia) and that would be so ironic in the face of history. Johnson had said, "We've lost the South forever." when he signed the Civil Rights Act. A black man winning the South back for the Democrats, the irony is dripping.

If Paul or Barr run, it'll hurt McCain in the GE even further.

I actually have a sneaking hope that Obama snatches Arizona from McCain's grip (ala Bush taking Tennessee from Gore).

I'm looking forward to seeing who Obama's VP choice is once these primaries are over.
