Obama? Who might that be you ask? You mean you don't know? You might want to think about that when weighing WV in the General election, lest you concede it must all be about Obama's skin color.

Amazing how those numbers shifted after the other candidates dropped out though, isn't it?

1. I chalk it up to WV being Republican, They have voted R for 8 years and who turned them that way....
Clinton.

Lost most of them over the Monica thing.

And why would they vote for Hillary, well theres two answers, the Tammy Wynette syndrome or shes the better of the 2 republicans take your pick.

2. Bull.
WV is a Democratic State.

What do you blame NM & IA in 2004 on?

3. WV went Bush both terms
Edited on Wed May-14-08 09:21 AM by Boz
And was by statistics a predominate reason that Al Gore was close to losing when his presidency was taken away by the courts.

Had WV gone democrat the way it USED to be 15 years ago, it wouldn't have been so close and florida wouldn't have mattered.

7. You are right. Campaigning & winning in WV would have rendered Florida
Moot.

13. Gore should have said nice things about guns
I think we are still a "blue" state by any conventional metric. We just voted for George Bush twice because we really really really disliked the Dem nominee. It happens.

California seems to always have a Republican governor, but no one ever questions its "blue" status.

4. I lived in Parkersburg, WV in the late 90s
and there was utter hatred for the Clintons. First it started with Bill because of his extracurricular activities, but then shifted to Hillary also when it appeared that she was staying with him to get a Senate seat in NY. There's no way the Republicans in WV are going to let Hillary win that state. They won't be voting for the wife of the first black President.

10. There are no Republicans in WV
I wish people would understand that.

However, McCain is still going to beat whoever runs against him in the state.

11. No Republicans in WV?
I worked with a couple of the staunchest Republicans that you'll ever find. To get along with coworkers where I worked you had to enjoy talking about fishing, hunting, and going to shooting ranges. And their values were as conservative as you can get.

12. We call those people "Democrats" in West Virginia
By and large, we are a one party state.

6. silly argument
McCain intentionally had his delegates in the W VA caucuses throw their support to Huckabee in order to derail Romney.

8. Neither Dem can beat McCain in WV, I think
There are like 50 Republicans in the whole state so I don't know who even attended this caucus. And McCain told his supporters to back Huckabee in order to torpedo the Romney threat.

I simply can't imagine West Virginia voting for a woman or a black over a POW. It's just not in our nature.
