Someone tell Obama to stop saying this race is "not over" Look at this
article on the front page of Comcast. It is making me sick at my stomach and I am afraid it will keep people from continuing to fight for him.

I think he needs to starting acting like a WINNER!!!

Someone please remind me why Obama already won. (I am a big fan of his....I voted for him in the Florida primary...... that isn't going to count)

Analysis: Maybe Obama should worry

WASHINGTON — Barack Obama is in hot pursuit of general election voters, hoping America won't notice he got his head handed to him in West Virginia.

The Illinois senator virtually pretended the primary didn't happen Tuesday, with no election night speech or any public appearance at all after the polls closed and gave Hillary Rodham Clinton a more than 2-1 victory even though her candidacy is likely doomed.

At Obama's Chicago headquarters, advisers said there was no reason to worry — West Virginia was demographically suited to Clinton and won't be part of their general election plans. It's also true that Clinton's win is unlikely to slow his march toward the nomination — Obama picked up 30 superdelegates this week, more than the 28 total pledged delegates up for grabs in West Virginia.

3. I know but I worry. And if he knows he already won why the Hell is he
saying there is still a race? He needs to be honest and tell the people that delegate wise he can't be caught.

I perk up every time I listen to that guy, (sorry I can't remember your name) who is always there with the numbers on election days. (He has a red goatee)

There is a psychological process going on here too. I want him to win big and to pull away so far that the average idiot can see he is the winner, (or the average neurotic like me)

17. If he said it was over..
..he would be attacked for being arrogant and what have you.

And he wants to make sure that the campaign is still firing on all cylinders to avoid the image of a slowdown in support for him, which, while still getting him the nomination - would be played in the press in the wrong way.

31. no he hasn't
i support obama (if he is the democratic nominee) but the race isn't over until november, when the democratic nominee will face the republican nominee.

until then, the race isn't over. until then, the real work doesn't begin.

8. No. Obama is not writing off any place.
He ran a top notch primary campaign and he'll run a different but equally good GE campaign. Thankfullly, Hill, who ran an epically bad campaign won't be the nominee.

18. Not only that...all those numbers were pre-Wright..
Pennsylvania is his outliner..and although they cheated in Indy, we'll see how he does in Oregon.

Does Obama actually think there are no middle class working folks in Oregon after this insulting message directed at W. Virginians ?

"At Obama's Chicago headquarters, advisers said there was no reason to worry — West Virginia was demographically suited to Clinton and won't be part of their general election plans."

Why is it news now as if it was a surprise. :-)

Kentucky will have a similar outcome. So what?

Let's see the results for future primaries in Oregon, Montana, and South Dakota.

14. I think, for now, Sen. Obama has to say that the race isn't over yet
Edited on Wed May-14-08 07:36 AM by Window
because it isn't. Can you imagine what these talking heads would say if he proclaimed "it's over, I've won." They would call him an uppity, cocky ________, among other unsavory names.

I knew exactly what Hillary would say in her speech last night and that the pundits and her followers would declare "Hillary has turned yet another corner". She's a fighter and she's not giving up, etc., etc., blah, blah," and, then, begin talking about how she could still win, despite the mathematical improbability.

Actually, the polls were almost dead on for a change. They had Obama losing with 23% of the vote...he had 28%.

Try not to worry -- that's what they're counting on.

Peace:thumbsup:

because SOME people are already calling him "elitist and out of touch" so if he says I've won, they'll reframe his confidence as arrogance.

22. "No election night speech" -- Give a speech about what?
Edited on Wed May-14-08 08:13 AM by high density
There were no speeches given after Maine and other contests so I don't see why every election now requires a speech. I don't buy Pickler's baseless assertion that WV = MI either. Nobody on the planet is saying that except for her. Every state in the nation has a few deep red pockets of people that Obama will never win over.

Obama is waiting until 2025 before he says "I'm the winner." Otherwise there will be too much blowback as others have pointed out.

By the way, here's a better link that isn't so darn picky about the web browser you're using: http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5iZecbKcAcd5BUKos1DBquVPqnlUQD90L99L00

28. He HAS to be diplomatic or else the nutty Clinton campaign would be all over what he says
crying "No fair! Stop disenfranchising the voters!"

It's like a hostage negotiation - he has to treat it carefully.

And that says a LOT about why that campaign truly needs to shut it down and how, the longer this has gone on, we're lucky to see HRC for what she really is under pressure. Not good.

29. I think he kind of has to say that.
Until he rolls out the next wave of SDs, he hasn't officially won the nod yet. But it's coming. The SDs are in place and he will win the nod. I think he's doing the right thing. Let the people vote, but he knows he got it locked up. He's already campaigning for the GE. Good on him.

30. Hmmmm
Nowhere in that linked article does he say the race isn't over. In fact, there's not a single direct quote from Obama in the entire article. They quote his campaign staff and also there's a Hillary quote. And the writer throws in her opinion regarding him having "his head handed to him" and that he "pretended the primary didn't happen." Typical spin. How about reminding us of all of Obama's blowouts against Clinton? Hmm?? ::crickets::

32. Someone up thread said that the woman that wrote it is a republican pawn
I tend to think that if the article is somewhere important, like Comcast, than the article is significant. From what I hear here I should not listen to her.

But why would Comcast put an article up by a woman like that anyway, unless they are owned by Murdock or affiliate?
