during the second round they are free to vote however they want
That said... the primary system is pretty much unique to the US.. in many places of the world party stalwarts are still chosen in closed down, smoke filled rooms. That was the way here until 1968... don't think we want to go back to that system
if we didn't have primaries, Hillary would have been anointed as the nominee a year ago. The primaries give us a chance to see the candidates in action.
Most pledged delegates will stick by their man/woman -- unless something comes along to change their minds.
