Fish. Barrel. Boom.
He parked it.

I'm amazed that people still argue Senator Obama won't be able to handle and fight during the general election. He just took over the entire rest of the news cycle, basically declared himself the Democratic nominee by challenging McCain directly to a debate, and if McCain dodges he can spend the next week calling him chickenshit while blasting both he and Bush on the war.

Wham and splatter.

45. Oh the foes will rise
With the sleep still in their eyes
And they'll jerk from their beds and think they're dreamin'.
But they'll pinch themselves and squeal
And know that it's for real,
The hour when the ship comes in.

Then they'll raise their hands,
Sayin' we'll meet all your demands,
But we'll shout from the bow your days are numbered.
And like Pharaoh's tribe,
They'll be drownded in the tide,
And like Goliath, they'll be conquered.

My biggest "fan days" were in the 60s ... Al Kaline, Bill Freehan ... I was a sometimes "bleacher bum" at Briggs Stadium. I loved watching Dick McAuliffe at shortstop. Cal Ripken, however, pretty much perfected the position.

67. I saw Cal's 400th home run.
It dropped about ten feet in front of me just as I was standing up to get a beer (I was so loaded I didn't even know he was at bat).

The ball came in making this evil sizzling noise, and the poor guy who was in position to catch it had his hands too far apart. The ball went right in between them and smashed the poor dude's nose, shooting blood over about a dozen seats (which were closed off as a biohazard). Worse than that, another guy caught the ball on the bounce off the first poor guy's face and ran away with it.

It's nothing about nothing, and it certainly wasn't Cal's fault. I just thought you Cal fans might like to hear the story.

rather than trying to support Obama's efforts to take the fight to the people who deserve it and who have sent this country into the toilet for 8 years.

Another fringe benefit for Obama taking it to Bush/McCain is that Bill Clinton sounds even more ridiculous for declaring Republicans more 'progressive' than Democrats. Bill needs to stop lying down with the dogs.

Obama will give us the fight we've wanted to see rather than the triangulation that's let the Republicans run roughshod over everything.

20. At the risk of being over-confident...
I think McCain is on his way to an ass-kicking that will be Mondalesque in scope. And I'm thinking of twenty more seats in the House and 5-6 more seats in the Senate changing hands this year.

Did anybody hear what Sean Hannity was saying the other day? The Republicans need a new "Contract With America" so people know what the Republican Party stands for. The problem, Sean, is that people know EXACTLY what the Republican Party now stands for and their heading to the exits like it's a Michael Bolton concert.

John McCain is serving up four more years of what 80% of Americans believe is "the wrong track" and the rest of the Party can't decide whether to embrace disaster as a group or go off and find little individual disasters that are just right for them.

It used to be that in a bad year, at least a Republican seat in Mississippi was a sure thing.

...Not any more!

69. Impressive indeed.
I really like this guy's ability to turn his enemies' guns around and blast 'em with their own ammunition. He's the Captain Marmont of American politics.

It's very different from the way previous candidates have played it. President Clinton was an expert at charting a safe course through utter chaos--sometimes generating a little chaos of his own in order to do it. Reagan just let it all slide off of him by playing his greatest role and pretending to be above the fray. Bush and Nixon resorted to falsehood and misdirection.

Not Obama. He's quickly turning every slur against him into an ABC After School Special on the subject, informing his audience while setting an example of tone and morality. If he keeps it up, he's going to set precedents that no Republican will ever be able to meet.

And that's just the way it ought to be.
