4. And got his ass kicked by Matthews in the last seconds of the segment
I agree with Ed - I believe that Bush has been a useful idiot.

But I cringed when he called W an idiot. He left himself wide open for a take down by Matthews and he got taken down.

5. yea, I wish he had been more specific and really laid into Bush and McCain rather than just call him
an idiot. The repuke guy did a better job tearing into McCain.

6. How did he get taken down?
I can't watch TV right now. Please explain how he was "taken down" by Matthews.

8. Matthews admonished him in the last seconds of the segment
Ed never had a chance to say another word about it. He wasn't in the next segment. So, in the end Ed looked like a foolish name caller.

11. jackass vs. idiot
5 minutes earlier in the show Mathews called Kevin James a jackass, then he tells Schultz that "idiot" is not appropriate.

14. Oh, that's so true!
But when it's your sandbox, you can get away with it. The guests? Not so much.

Ed just needs to remember when it's his show and when he's a guest. He left it wide open for the others to take Bush's side and put the egg on Ed's face.

Fortunately, this will be forgotten very soon. :hi:

7. The thing that gets me about Bush
is that he doesn't realise he's an idiot!

Someone of average intelligence would realise that they're not good enough to be POTUS.

9. He didn't really get "taken down" per se
Edited on Fri May-16-08 04:42 PM by ErinBerin84
at the end of the segment, Chris Matthews just said that we should avoid the insult of calling someone an idiot, because it is less fun to criticize someone when you start talking about their IQ. Lol...ok, Chris. He didn't really shoot it down though. And it was the end of the segment anyways, the other radio host wasn't in the next segment either (Michael Smirkonoff? I never know how to spell his name), so I don't think it means anything that Ed Shultz wasn't in the next segment. And other than that, Chris has been pretty good on hardball again tonight (not saying that he'll stay that way for the GE, but you never know..). He made the case again for Obama saying that we should have open talks with our enemies, and then gave several historical examples where the government didn't do that and we ended up getting screwed. Even Andrea Mitchell was surprisingly good. She pointed out the hypocrisy of Bush given Robert Gates this week, and brought up Huckabee's "joke" and said "That was BIZARRE. Just BIZARRE. You DON'T make jokes like that in the presidential-" , and then Chris cut her off and said "Shhh. Don't even repeat it. There are a lot of nuts watching and I don't want them getting any ideas." (Ok, I think he's talking about the "joke" again now, missed what he just said. Anyone hear?)
