NO TO HILLARY AS VP PETITION
SAY NO TO HILLARY FOR VP

Sign the Petition!

"We the undersigned respectfully urge Senator Obama not to include Hillary Clinton on a general election ticket when he secures the Democratic nomination for the Presidency of the United States of America. While we have enormous respect for Senator Clinton and her work, we recognize that the change this country requires prohibits us from supporting her as a Vice Presidential candidate. Senator Clinton does not represent the kind of change we need in Washington - and will not help Barack Obama unite the country to tackle the most extreme challenges that face our nation. Two families have occupied seats in the executive branch of the United States government for over 10,000 consecutive days. In order to truly turn the page, it is our belief that Senator Hillary Clinton must be removed from any "short list" for vice presidential consideration."

2. Rewarding bad behavior cannot be considered.
Mebbe Webb or Richardson, but Clinton...NEVER.
She's burned too many bridges with Obama.
Her scorched-earth tactics will likely doom her political career.

3. I actually think that choosing someone who has a different point of view on some issues
Edited on Sat May-17-08 12:39 AM by merwin
would be a GREAT choice for VP. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but it seems that it would cause a lot more good internal debate for Obama. In fact, I think someone even more moderate (think: moderate paleo-conservative) would be a good choice.

5. This petition is meaningless.
Why would they pay any attention to anything like this?

6. In the Obama campaign, words matter.
From the evidence, words do not matter in the Clinton campaign.

That's why.

9. Words, eh?
Then I am glad his campaign is not like DU. About an hour ago, I woke up and could not go back to sleep. I logged in here. The tone tonight is shrill, demanding and hysterical. And I am talking about Obama supporters. What set everyone off?

11. I don't know that I agree, but if anything set people off, it was probably this:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x6004784

And the fact that the call pretty much confirms a coordinated effort to manufacture outrage--this time over the legitimacy of caucuses. There were a couple of threads that were then discovered to have come pretty much from the talking points from the call.

16. Yeah, I saw that.
But there have been many people here who have questioned the legitimacy of the caucuses in the past. It's not as though this has never been discussed here.

I figured there had to be something.

17. Sure, and I think that's a great discussion for after the process is over
Good cases can be made on both sides--though I doubt many (any?) of the caucus states really care what everyone else thinks. :)

However, I'm sure we both know that the underlying issue is not the legitimacy of caucuses but the ever-evolving metric for a Hillary 'victory.' To further suggest that the Democratic Party's nominating process is somehow illegitimate to many--my self included--seems like a scorched earth campaign. What good is that going to do? From where I'm standing, it just looks as though Hillary is painting herself and her supporters into a corner.

27. I'm in a great mood. We've got Livingston Taylor on the music box,
singing "Carolina Day" and "Truck Drivin' Man."

Here is one 2-line glimpse into "Truck Drivin' Man" "

_ _ _

My right arm's strong as a ray of steel / My left one's dark and tan
Don't let me love you mama I'm a truck drivin' man

_ _ _

Pretty snappy lyrics for a Saturday morning, I'd say.

7. nope. Obama has demonstrated to my satisfaction that when
it comes to strategy and winning, he knows what he's doing. It's his decision. I'm happy to leave it up to him.

25. I think choosing her would be completely incongruent with his campaign themes.
Somewhere deep down, I trust him not to make such a tragic strategic error. He'll do the right thing for his campaign... no need for a petition.

I've nowhere near convinced yet. Not with Biden, Richardson and others out there.

21. I personally think that Hillary would make a EXCELLENT VP but I also
want to say that I support your right to express your deferring opinion, and applaud this petition as a much better and more constructive way of doing so than the people on here who merely use the issue as an excuse to spew hate.
