Why can't more politicians be as classy as Biden?
Edited on Sun May-18-08 01:20 PM by pirhana
While on This Week with Snuffy -

He said no matter what happens with Hillary, she is coming out of this as the most powerful woman in politics~ he said apologies to Madame Speaker(an acknowledgement of where he thinks this race is going).

He was on this show letting Americans know that boosh is a hypocrite. And that Obama is more than ready.

And that he is pissed because he sees a pattern coming out of the repugs trying to paint Obama as inexperienced in foreign affairs, and he's not going to let them get away with it.
Pretty nice coming out of the mouth of the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee.

He said he talks to both Hillary and Obama frequently. They call him for advice.
Makes sense....some of us Bidenites have recently heard both candidates sound alot like Joe.

Maybe I'm biased about Biden :P But I can't see anybody stronger to be VP.

I know some of you are pissed at him about the bankruptcy bill - so am I - but a VP doesn't make those decisions. I know some of you think he is a racist BUT it was Obama himself that pretty much told you to stop calling him that and rattled off many of the things Biden has done for civil rights.

With Biden on the ticket, our nominee can run an upbeat, positive campaign.
Biden will have no problem fighting McCain for them. And will kick ass during the VP debate.
You can be certain that Biden's comments about Rudy - "A noun, a verb and 9/11" - helped take
Rudy down. Biden was the only one out there in 2004 giving the press hell for running with the swiftboat liars story.

To quote something I heard on Randi Rhodes the other day, after she played a clip of Biden -
"Biden is right. Biden is usually right".

Thoughts?

1. I have other preferences, but would not object at all to Biden.
I'd be especially pleased to see him being given a LOT of air
time, as he is as rhetorically gifted as Obama. The Republicans
would have to nominate Bill Bennett to have a VP candidate who
is as gifted a speaker as Biden, and with his younger trophy
(second) wife along with his gambling addiction, he's not even
on McCain's radar. We'd talk-show McCain to death before the first
debate was even set.

2. Biden was very classy this morning, as always
George kept trying to put him in a box and get him to go against Clinton. As an Obama supporter, I'm glad that Biden stayed above the fray. George wanted desperately to get a headline, and was like "Why haven't you endorsed Obama?" and Biden explained that he was staying neutral, that both would wipe the floor with McCain, that he talks to both Hillary and Obama frequently, and that the Clinton campaign was still trying to make arguments. Then George interrupted him and said something like "No. You know that Obama is going to be ahead in delegates and popular vote. Come on, you know that he's the nominee." George is trying to become the new king of "gotchas!" over Tim Russert.

Still love the "A noun, a verb and 9/11" attack against Rudy, it was SO true.

He pretty much acknowledged that Obama most likely will be our nominee, while putting Hillary on a pedestal.

She is right behind Cheney in line for the Presidency.

If something happened to Shrub, and Cheney hearing the news, had a heart attack we would have a woman President named Nancy

31. She COULD have been the most powerful woman in politics.
She screwed that up by taking "impeachment off the table." From being a strong politician she became an enabler of the * regime.

40. Here are Biden's exact comments -
he can explain it better than me ;)

But he pointed out that even if Clinton is not the nominee, "she's still the most powerful woman in American politics. Now, I know the speaker might not like me saying that, who's a powerful, capable woman. ... But this is a woman who has demonstrated beyond anybody's doubt that she has the gumption and the brains and the tenacity and the stamina to take on anything, and she is going to play a major, major role in American politics, no matter what the outcome is."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

What he was doing was saying that Obama was most likely going to be our nominee, and at the same time he was praising Hillary.

That's class.

29. This statement of Biden's on 1-31-07 is the rationale behind that assertion.

Most noteworthy is what he says about Barack Obama: “I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” he said. “I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”

http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/archives/2007/01/biden_obama_clean_articulate_bright_african-american/

There was an uproar about the word "clean"

While many took it to mean either clean-cut or politically clean, others took umbrage and suggested that Biden meant that AA's weren't "clean' people.

Obama claimed to take no offense, but the Obama machine got behind it and ran it up the flag pole to see if it would fly. It did.

IMO, this was the first "race card" thrown by Obama's campaign.

16. "Joe is right."
At all the early debates, you could hear most of the other candidates say that at one time or another.

If Hillary isn't picked to be VP, Biden is the only other VP I could really get behind.

Richardson would be a poor choice, not just because I am unhappy with his cynical endorsement of Obama, but also because he just isn't articulate enough to come out well in VP debates. Huckabee, Romney, whoever, will chew him up and spit him out.

Edwards never impressed me even prior to his suspending his campaign. I perceived him as as dishonest, slick, etc., etc. His endorsement of Obama doesn't bother me at all. But since I also perceive Obama as a "slick salesman", it would add nothing to the ticket. Give him AG, not VP.

Any other woman as a VP pick I would consider a direct slap in the face.

66. much as I adore Joe Biden

(it being the Canadian thing to do) --

Any other woman as a VP pick I would consider a direct slap in the face.

-- picking anyone who is not a woman as VP would be an intolerable slap in the face to everyone who trusted the claims that Obama is progressive.

I can hardly imagine him picking Clinton, or her wanting to be picked. But the idea that there was not one other woman in the US who is qualified for the position, or that one more time there was some more important factor or group to be considered than women, would just be politics as usual and evidence of Obama's total bad faith.

If you ask me.

Biden, meanwhile, would go on doing the excellent and essential work he has always done, although he'd be able to do it more effectively in a Democratic administration.

He represents our Party well, and represents our country well when he's abroad.

Although I personally am not thrilled with the idea of his being VP, I'm in total agreement that he would be an excellent choice on the ticket, for all the reasons you mentioned and also because I feel he would attract votes from the Republican pool who aren't too thrilled with McCain.

There are very few politicians I sincerely respect and TRUST -- and he leads my list.

...of his own voice, an occasional unctuousness, and that annoying problem of going “off the cuff” too often to safeguard it properly I have learned to accept. Nobody's perfect.

That said, he is at heart a damned good Dem, a white-hot firebrand against the right when the time calls for it, and an absolutely PERFECT fit for the U.S. Senate. That is his calling it seems, and it is evident. He's classy as hell and an asset to the Democratic Party. The fact that GOP'ers hate him so intensely says it all.

34. Biden Would Have Been One Of The Greatest...
Edited on Sun May-18-08 01:15 PM by Steely_Dan
presidents in our lifetime...and maybe for all time.

This was Biden's time...America was ready and he was ready. This was not the time to try and make Presidential history. This was the time to get our bearings back...to get the pendulum to start swinging in our direction.

Few people know that...

Biden is second to last on the senatorial wealth list...he was never in it for the money.
He had to take a second out on his home to send his kids to college.
He takes a train to work every day.
His son is preparing to serve in Iraq.

Is Biden perfect...no, he's not. And he would be the first to admit it. That may not have been true of him 10 years ago. He has found himself and knows his limitations.

No, he isn't perfect, but to say that ANY of the other candidates (on either side) was more qualified is to not see or understand what 35 years in the Senate could have meant to this country. Do you have a problem with his "off the cuff" remarks? It is that dangerous honesty that we could have benefited from for the next four or eight years.

Above all, Mr. Biden is professionally, a true statesman in the same mold as our founding fathers. Personally, he is about as genuine a man as you will ever meet. He loves this country and would sacrifice everything to insure that our Constitution was upheld in the most honorable manner.

Out of all that Mr. Biden has said over the years, it was a statement he made during the Iowa caucuses...He said: "There are some things worth losing an election over." How refreshing considering who we are left with.

I am saddened beyond words that America missed this once in a lifetime opportunity. I am angry and I will go to my grave believing that he would have not only returned America to its former glory...but he would have changed the world.

Now we have a horse race when it could have and should have been a shoe-in for our side. We did this to ourselves and I honestly believe that we will all live to regret it.

Thank you "caucus system." Thank you "media." Thank you $$$$. Thanks for letting the best get away.

-P

...there is one problem: He is running for re-election for the Senate this year.

He could, of course, pull a Lieberman and run for both, but that looks kinda tacky. He could also hand it off to his son (Delaware's Atty. Gen.) or something.

Still, he would be my #1 pick for VP, though I doubt he'd do it.

64. Agreed - his problem is that he's TOO GOOD.
-joking of course, but he's the perfect protection for Barack during the GE, but also the PERFECT SoS...

Hey, either way, we win.

70. I'm selfish...
if not President....then I prefer to keep him as my senator for as long as he wishes to be.
He is very powerful in the Senate and can accomplish more there than as the Vice President.
I also still have my stickers on my car and in the Maryland area last week received some positive
comments and reactions to it. :hi:

41. Biden supported Bankruptcy Reform--sorry, can't forgive that...
Edited on Sun May-18-08 01:14 PM by tokenlib
Every consumer group in the country opposed that legislation. It is opposed to the values of our party.

It sucks because I like Biden other than that...

45. This is about priorities--and Biden is beholden to the lenders and banks..
Edited on Sun May-18-08 01:26 PM by tokenlib
..and supported measures which hurt the people who need help the most. There are a lot of us who feel this is a cause worth being a pain in the ass about..

It was evil, mean spirited legislation--pure and simple. And when Hillary supported one of the versions and said she was glad when it didn't pass--it was kind of like she got caught doing something bad. It is hard to defend...

Look it up if you want....I really don't want to get into it here.

68. So the large credit card industry based in Delaware had nothing to do with his vote???
Strange. Everyone tells me he voted for the mean-spirited reform legislation to protect the credit card industry jobs in his home state. That is being beholden to a home state industry as far as I can tell.

57. I saw some of the interview and
Biden didn't rule out the VP spot but he doesn't think he will be asked. But if asked he would give it the thought.

He's been on my list with Gore, and Richardson.

And yes, he is pure class. The interview was great this morning.

Both Obama and Clinton hold Biden in high regard. He appeals to both groups of supporters. IMO he would be perfect to unite everyone.

75. I have no problem with Biden
He would balance the ticket out as O's VP. A female gov. or maybe Richardson would be good.
