Obama: "All Of You Have To Be Nice To Clinton Supporters.”
Obama Orders Faithful to “Be Nice to Clinton Supporters”
by Bonney Kapp
At a fundraiser last night in Portland that raked in an estimated $350,000 to his campaign coffers, Barack Obama predicted a victory in Oregon, and said he believed the resulting delegate haul would “put us over the top.”

“We will be able to say we have won a majority,” he said. “But we have a lot of work to do ahead of us.”

For Dems to win in November, he said, it will require a unified Party, adding: “That means all of you have to be nice to Clinton supporters.”

After Tuesday there are three more contests.

8. Get over it. Obama's winning right now, shouldn't that be enough?
Or do you have to continue with the senseless back and forth that's been going on around here for over a year now?

Yeah right.

That'll happen...

My candidate didn't win either. I acted like an adult about it -- and I can hold them to that same standard.

11. doesn't matter...
...there are those throwing bombs, those should be summarily bounced on their heads and then dismissed, they aren't going to vote for a Democratic nominee in November anyway, they have other agendas. Then there are the vast majority, who will vent and such, but this is about what we do, not about how we respond. The nomination will be decided, and we need to be looking ahead. some will insist on fighting yesterdays battles, but that's nearly always the case. forward...

37. It will require both groups to treat the other
as he/she would desire to be treated. Your finger pointing does not promote warm greetings. From what I can tell, the Clinton supports have departed this and other Democratic Boards such as Kos, DW and so on............

We are at fault, we have behaved badly and not at all like a Liberal.

18. You missed the entire campaign?
Yes, it began by portraying Clinton as divisive because of the right-wing attacks she's endured - And then quickly shifted into attacking Clinton's integrity and honesty.

It's called character assassination.

28. Clinton has around 80% favorable ratings with DEMS
- Obama's smear campaign notwithstanding. It's simple: Obama had a ready-made attack machine at his disposal - perceptions created by the right-wing attacks of the nineties.

Only now it would be a Democrat using them on a fellow Democrat - "New Politics" - I need to get on board!

46. These phantom "smears" never seem to materialize
The thing I've seen a Hillary supporter offer as proof is that piss poor attack timeline website, which is a reach to say the least.

When Obama says "I'm the best candidate" that is not an attack, nor is quoting Obama supporters valid in my mind. I listen to what the candidates themselves say...and under that criteria I would say that Obama has run a very clean campaign by modern standards.

36. Just put them in the Ignore cage.
They are never going to add anything valuable to this forum, so get them out of your field of view.

It is a bit challenging, I admit, because once I think I've got them all on my ignore list, another one shows up lobbing their trash.

With DemGa, I now have 90 on my ignore list. I's be happy to share this list with anyone who sends me a private message.

17. We'll see what happens when
Obama is OFFICIALLY the nominee. Everyone on DU will be required by The Rules to support him so we'll all be working together.

The hilarys who are going to be voting for the A$$hole mccain won't even be here.

I was for Dean in 2004 and left DU for awhile but I came back 'cause I got behind Kerry and wanted to be a part of getting him elected over the fucking bushits.

I didn't ask anyone to kiss my ass, either.

38. It's time for all
good and sincere democrats to make an effort to get along. That does not mean that we are all going to be friends again, for that is unrealistic. But we do not have to argue and add to the accumulated hostilities from the past three or four months. If we try to keep our comments positive, converse with those we can get along with, and refuse to respond to those who only seek to provoke fights, then we will be able to get along quite well .... and isolate the trouble-makers, as well.

43. It's politics. He needs them in November...
... because he WILL be the nominee! He's already going to be down some votes because of the "conservative" Dems who just can't bring themselves to vote for a black man. True, he will be bringing in some new voters, but still... the more former Clinton supporters he can get, the better his chances.

Clinton will NOT be the nominee, so she doesn't need Obama supporters.

If you truly support Obama, do what he asks. If "being nice" is too much of a stretch, at least stop with the pointless insults and the "rubbing salt in the wounds" posts.

I am sympathetic to Clinton, who I think is a true-blue Democrat and would be a good president. I am sympathetic to most of her supporters, for whatever reason they support her. I "get" their pain. (Heck, even though I'm supporting Obama, a pair of X chromosomes are off in a corner of my soul, sobbing their little hearts out over the loss of the chance to elect a female President.)

I am not sympathetic to the bashers and snark-slingers on either side of the divide, and never have been. So this won't be hard for me. I'm sorry if it's hard for you, but hey... it's politics. Suck it up and do the right thing for our nominee!
