Dilemma....I need your help.....Should I....
pay 250.00 and go to Maitland (Florida) to hear Obama in an intimate fundraiser of approx. 300 people (some of whom had to pay 1000.00 or even 2300.00 to get in---of course, they get a personal posed photo with him for that but the host told me I could probably get a handshake or book signed) or should I drive twice as far to Tampa and fight the crowds for the FREE rally? (PS I already have an e-ticket so that much is done should I decide on this one).

This may seem like a no-brainer to some of you, but I keep going back and forth with the positives and the negatives of each. I need some rational help to decide where to spend my Wednesday and how to spend the money I really don't have at this point, keeping in mind that it will cost me more in gas money to drive to Tampa than Maitland.

Thanks for your advice.

2. If you can afford it go to the small fundraiser
Obama can use your $250 and you'll get a chance to see him up close, which will be a great memory to have. And you might get some really cool photos in a small venue like that.

9. thanks anig....the host did tell me that 250.00 is rather cheap to
get into a venue like this and I have to agree....oh, and I have already donated to the campaign but am still under limit, thank heavens.

There will be plenty of Rallies in Florida between now and November. You'll have another chance for a Rally.

12. ha ha, you make a point there, but then again hubby worked for
the oil company for over 29 years, too, so it just goes toward his pension he starts collecting soon...so I guess I don't care if it goes to both at this point....but thanks for the vote.

15. yeah, you have a point. I still remember being up close to Kerry and its
effect.

And, on a side note, what do you mean paper? All mine is electronic anymore. I never see any "paper" or "pennies" for that matter. Just Paypal, Direct Deposit and online billpay.

24. Amen. The memory will be worth far more than anything else you can get for $250.
Meeting politicians up close and personal gives you a vast amount of information you do not otherwise get. Just watching them in that environment, watching others around them, and seeing how they handle people is an education.

14. I'd pay and go myself.
Though it would cost me more as both of my daughters would absolutely demand to go too, and we really don't have the money, but I'd do it anyway.

I've been around since Nixon/MCGovern, and this is once in a lifetime.

then it would cost me 500.00. He doesn't want to do the rally, though.....

19. I'd still go....I've missed three opportunities because travel is difficult
and then after the difficulties of travel there is the possibility of not getting in.

But I live in a smaller town miles from anywhere. And I'd go because my daughters would treasure the memory, and they are the same age as I was when Carter was running, and he was "my" candidate though I never met him...

20. thanks for bringing up Carter because I don't live all that far from
GA either and I have already said that when he passes away some day that I would want to go pay my respects since he was the first President that I ever got to vote for and I think he just got a bum rap at the end. But, Obama will outlive me by far so you have a point there. I should go see him now while I am living myself.

22. Well, it's on a very human level really
Especially when I think of the world as it was then - the environment, the energy policies, the possibilities for the future - and how things have changed for the worse. Carter had a vision for the future that I was behind 100%. And then his ideals and dreams went down in flames, essentially. When I think what that musty have been like - in DC, surrounded by who knows what kind of people and agendas - I wish that at some point I could have shaken his hand and let him know that I was for him, that I was behind him, that he was working for me and he had my confidence and support, 100%.

Even knowing how things turned out, I wish that I had done that. Maybe things could have been different, or at least he might have remembered me at some difficult point where a decision had to be made, or when everything else seemed to turn against him...

My older daughter thinks of Obama the way I thought of Carter then, and I'd so love to give her an opportunity I never had.
