Attacks on Michelle Obama are both scurrilous and misguided. And dangerous waters for the republicans. Glass houses and all that.

I'm all for taking scrawny death merchant Cindy McCain to task.

How many people have died from drivers impaired by her product?
How much blood is on her hands?

She is a death merchant and should be called just that.

http://www.alcoholalert.com/drunk-driving-statistics-ar...

Not to mention she's a former thieving drug addict. Stealing drugs to get another fix.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cindy_Hensley_McCain

If they wanna play ugly, bring it.

Or we can play nicey nice and call spouses out of bounds. Whichever.

While allowing surrogates to sling mud.

First it was N Carolina republican party.
Then Mississippi.
Now Tennessee.

We will not sit by this time and allow our man to be swift boated by these thuggish tactics.

I will not be intimidated and am willing to counter punch them if need be.

Its been going on for close to 200 years (at least).

This lady's husband ran for president (and won), but she got beat up so bad many think thats what killed her.

4. Hey SoonerPride,
special greetings from a Cowgirl from Stillwater! The rivalries between our teams aside, isn't it great that we have a Democratic governor in Okieland? Maybe we can even turn our state blue in the fall, what do you think? Besides, I agree with you on the wife issue. If they do attack Michelle Obama, bring it on, we can hit them back hard any day!!!

I was proud when Gov Henry endorsed Obama after news came out that David Boren had too. That was a good week.

I doubt we can turn this state. But I'm gonna try my damndest to make it so.

We used to be Dem stronghold.

Maybe one day we can again.

I think they both should be off limits.

The thread was the video - Obama to Tennessee GOP: Lay Off My Wife.

Your response: He's joking, right?
You send a candidate's spouse out to campaign, and you expect "polite" from the opposition?
The way the Obama camp has attacked Bill and Chelsea makes me think this "Lay off my wife" line is a joke.

Do you even consider yourself a Democrat anymore?

Meanwhile they just pile on.

Screw that.

Hit 'em back and stand your ground.

No more Mr. Nice guy.

While it is the right thing to do, but it also can make you look weak and ineffectual.

First ask them to stop.
Then tell them to stop.
Then unleash the hounds of hell and let loose the dogs of war.

Three stikes and you're out.

31. Tell me again why your supporting Obama?
Sounds like Hillary is the candidate you want if this is your attitude toward campaigning. How bout we do what Obama has done, and pointed out how truly unamerican it is to attack someone's wife, especially coming from the values party? This seems to me to be a better ground than to attack Cindy McCain.

If we wanna go for blood at all costs, what exactly will our mandate look like? Lemme guess - it will look just the same as every mandate since '92. We'll have a divided country where there is little middle ground. Considering the result, please count me out of that method of campaigning please.

34. BO can take the high ground ...
it isn't McCain who is taking the shots at Michele, it is his subordinates ... As noted, crying foul over Michele won't stop them one bit, and only makes you look like a whiner ... BO can and should take the high ground, but his supporters at the same level as those going after Michele SHOULD go after Cindy ...

Cindy was off bounds until they started on Michele ... Now, hit Cindy with what is legit, the MSM will find religion on keeping spouses out of it, and McCain, as man SHOULD tell his underlings to lay off of Michele ...

"new politics" doesn't mean you let someone smash you in the balls 100 times, do nothing about it other than whine ... Politics is a SELF regulating sport ...

You can whine about them going after Michele, but that ain't going to stop them one bit and only makes you look soft ...

FACT ...

Hit Cindy with what is legit, bring her "issues" up, and the MSM will all of sudden find religion on leaving spouses out of it ... AND, McCain will do what he should have done from the beginning - tell his supporters and the right wing to leave the wife out of it ...

Truly, why do you want to create hatred and discontent on the other side? Believe it or not, Obama will need to govern assuming he wins. The Republicans and the Democrats in the 90s both forgot this. As a consequence, we ended up with an intensely divided and polarized governance model which got nothing done.

I think there is a link to it in that story... We have nothing to worry about on the "spouse" end. Bill's already been through the ringer and pitting Michelle Obama against Cindy McCain would be a huge mistake for Republicans.

28. I had this exchange with a RWFer ...
on another board ... He just blasted Michele with the right wing hatred ... Normally, I have a live and let live approach, but I compared Michele, who grew up MIDDLE CLASS, worked her way up in the world and is a faithful wife and mother to a woman who grew up in privilege, stole another woman's man, was a pill popping addict who stole her drugs FROM HER OWN NON-PROFIT ...

Never got a response after that point ...

That is the thing about right wingers ... They so READILY buy into the personal nonsense and are so COMPELTELY oblivious to how it hits their team twice as hard ... It NEVER ENDS, their complete obliviousness ...

I'm about her age and I'd have my children/grand kids shoot me if I ran around with that 1963 hair-do of hers. You think with her money she could get a good cut, style and rid herself of the "bimbo" blonde bad dye job! There. That felt good. I say "use it"! The GOP "Family Values" party stoops to the level of attacking a man's family, for the purpose of winning. The "Christian Values" party stoops to that level. We should not. We are the party of "Change"

Democrats do not run campaigns on the "Atwater-Rove" Plan. Taking a phrase out of "All the President's Men" NO MORE "RAT-FUCKING" America is sick of it, We need Change. Only we can be that change.

He's letting them fall flat on their faces, fighting fire not with fire, but with water. He's arguing against the very concept of their attacks, so no he doesn't want to go to that level himself. He's,correctly tapped into a real frustration among the american people with this rovian style, and the more he can link McCain to this the more he can cast off the "maverick" image (and yes this will require him distancing himself from these tactics himself lest he be called a hypocrite relatively) That will KILL McCain especially, because of his dearth of base support, and his appeal to independents via this maverick-above-petty-politics-meme. Obama should stick with exactly what got him here, and cut off McCain's life blood. That doesn't mean he won't counter punch AGAINST attacks on him with the truth, but he won't go to attacking others wives after he said himself "lay off my wife". That's what he's chosen to do (rightly or wrongly) and I think he'll diminish himself he's seen as changing his tune.

48. Is "McCain dumping disabled first wife after affair with Cindy" going after John or Cindy?
Every time I hear what an "honorable man" John McCain is, I can't help but remind folks of this little toe-tapper. Ugh. Yeah, the sex life is none of our business. But it speaks to McCain's character, just as Newt dumping his wife on her post-cancer-surgery hospital bed was.

http://archive.salon.com/mwt/feature/2000/03/06/carol/index.html

"It seems that McCain, who had once revealed to fellow prisoners of war in Vietnam that he wanted to be president, was restless in 1979. As Navy liaison to the Senate, he didn't have the career momentum he had counted on to propel him into an admiralty and on to the White House. He was 42, mired in stifling ordinariness. (Civilians call it "midlife crisis.")

"But McCain was making bold career moves on the home front, hotly pursuing a 25-year-old blond from a wealthy Arizona family -- while married. Carol, his wife at the time, had once been quite a babe herself apparently, until a near-fatal car accident (while her husband was in Vietnam) left her 4 inches shorter, overweight and on crutches. The couple had three children, whom Carol cared for alone while her husband was in Vietnamese prisons.

"McCain's strategy worked perfectly: After chasing Cindy Hensley around the country for six months, he closed the deal late in the year, had a divorce by February and was married to Hensley shortly thereafter. Bingo! McCain was a candidate for Congress by early 1982, his coffers full, his home in the proper Arizona district purchased. ..."
