Cleared Gitmo Chaplain Is Obama Delegate

I am so glad this man is still standing up for his beliefs. He was not cowed in his stance against the war, even when they tried to prosecute him as a spy simply because he is Muslim. Now he is continuing his patriotic duties by standing up for his candidate.

As a Christian who wore a head scarf after the 9/11 attack in solidarity with my sisters of Islam, I can tell you from experience what this man did was beyond his duty and very courageous. This administration thought they could use the hatred of our society against Muslims to destroy this good man and further demonize the Islamic people.

But what they did not realize is that there is also a great deal of love and admiration for the people of Islam as well that spreads across all religions and we stood up with him. Now Army chaplain James Yee is headed to the national convention as an Obama delegate. I know he will serve with the dignity and intelligence he demonstrated in the past. I salute you Jame Yee!

UPDATE: Letter to the Olympian Letters To The Editor:

I am so proud of Olympians for electing Chaplain James Yee to represent us in the Denver Democratic presidential convention for Barack Obama.

After 911, as a Christian I wore a headscarf in solidarity with my sisters of Islam who, for a short time there, lived in fear for their lives to be even seen in public. I wanted them to know as a Christian and an American they had a right to their beliefs as a Constitutional right and they were not alone. I also supported the guarding of the mosques that churches and synagogues participated with at that time. While this was was little compared to the courage James Yee showed to stand up for his beliefs, it gave me a special insight as to the daily battle many good people of Islam live every day within their beliefs and culture in this country. It also gave me a great deal of admiration that religions of all faiths stood with these wonderful people in spite of our differences in such an emotional scary time.

Because of his courage and fortitude, I know Mr Yee will serve with the same dignity, spiritual strength and intelligence as our representative in Denver. Congratulations Mr Yee and know there are people like me applauding your participation with joy!

Oh yeah!

1. Good for him. Another victim of the bush* admin.....
that was able weather the dark days at the hands or current dictatorship and lived to tell the tale. Only fitting that he be at the convention.

2. Ain't that the truth!
I am very proud that Mr Yee had the courage that he did and can now stand with us in Denver.
