After hearing about Ted Kennedy...
Edited on Tue May-20-08 02:24 PM by Blue_Roses
it really puts all the pettiness of this primary into perspective. This man is in for a REAL fight--one that I know he will take on as fierce as "a lion." I remember so well when JFKjr died and how he was there for Caroline. That image of him with his arm around her when they took JFKjr's ashes out to sea still resonates with me. I was only three when JFK died and seven when Bobby died, however looking back over history at that time, I've always wondered where the strength came for him to carry on the way he did afterwards. He is a very special person and to know that this hits us in so many different ways makes it so palpable.

I'm just so sad as I know many of you are too.

1. Not only now, but he's always been for REAL FIGHTS...
Real fights like:
-Civil rights
-Poverty
-Healthcare

Not petty squabbling like we've seen lately.

Can we take this perspective and come together now?

3. I know and when I look over GD-P and see such
squabbling and silliness over insignificant things and then look at what we've just heard, it's embarrassing.

you started a ripple. Tonight is a somber night even when there is so much excitement, but it makes my heart swell to know that there are such great people in this party and I am proud to be a Democrat first and foremost tonight:bounce: We really are an awesome party when we come together for the "greater good"...

Here's to winning in November:toast::party:

It is humbling, sobering, and inspiring...

6. I just got my head bitten off for telling my mother about his condition.
She's been a Kennedy Democrat since before she even got her citizenship papers in the mid-fifties.

Today, she took umbrage because I brought up Teddy to her when we'd promised not to talk about the Hillary-Obama flap. I couldn't believe it. It never occurred to me that by endorsing Obama, Kennedy -- with his decades long career of service, of fighting the good fight for our people, is now somehow reduced to "Obama supporter". That's not only ridiculous, it's toxic.

I just don't even recognize my own mother any more. We walked all those national campaigns together. Every single one.

10. I'm really sorry to hear that. :(
I hope your mom will eventually come around... Hard feelings tend to die out in the lead up to Election Day, when the game becomes real for most people.

21. I know what you mean. I have
a few fundie family members who I go to battle with every four years--not to mention all the battles during Bush's mad rule in office.:eyes:

Hang in there. It will get better.

It's heartbreaking. To lose both of your brothers that way. It's amazing he made it out of the sixties with his mind and body intact. Hell, it's amazing anybody did...

no doubt...I feel exactly the same way:cry: I was devastated when he died. I grew up with him (well, in the same age that is) and not only had a HUGE crush on him, I too, looked at him with such promise.

Ted Kennedy was such a rock for Caroline during that time. It broke my heart. I had just had a baby two weeks prior to his death and I named her--Caroline. :)

I just want people to put away the strife and hold this party together in the spirit that Ted always has.

to help those who were less fortunate than them. only god knows how long he has but i hope that he still has enough to guide young barack through the transition from senator to president...

20. I've been listening to so many stories about his kindness
from the pundits and others this afternoon. I didn't realize so many of the fun things he did. Bob Schrum was talking about this earlier.

Kennedy--being the fighter he is--is probably watching this afternoon and is screaming at the TV, "I'm not dead yet!" :D

He's still with us and that's a blessing so often we don't get.
