Beautiful bird, but scared the CRAP out of me one day. Three HUMVEES driving along a heavily wooded mountain trail. We had windows open, because a bunch of unwashed sweaty dudes can stink up a hummer something fierce. This was a pretty isolated area and we didn't expect any hostiles to be in the vicinity so we were somewhat relaxed. All of a sudden there is a deafening screech and a bird that seem like it was (at the time) the size of a helicopter came shooting out of the trees and buzzed our hummer before flying off along the mountain-side. We suspect (but didn't go back to check) that we drove close to it's nest. In any case, I think the four of us in the hummer simultaneously filled our pants. Give me the Taliban any day over an angry black eagle.
