Why do so many people hate Barack Obama?
Edited on Tue May-20-08 05:40 PM by texshelters
Are there any actual reasons to “hate” him, or is it just emotional vomit coming from the right and the left that might not get what they want because he is in the race. I don’t want Clinton to become president, but I don’t hate her. Hate is a bit strong for someone people who hate him admit they don’t know very well.

I have seen him called a joke, a sexist, all hat and no cattle, an ass, a jerk, etc.

Tell me what’s going on here.

If you hate him, why? I don’t want to read answers about flag pins, please!

If you like him, why?

78. Sorry, didn't mean to be snarky about the spelling. But seriously,
his books give a lot of information about who he is and what has brought him to where he is. I find that many people who say they "don't like him" really haven't done this very basic step background reading.

WTF is wrong with you people. I don't hate Clinton, but I don't deny that there is hatred for her in the world. Why are you all being so defensive. I don't know you, and was not talking to you in particular. So, you can stop with the defensiveness, unless like racists, you are in denial of your hate.

Sites?

Try getting up out of you chair and talking to some real people. Have you knocked on any doors, done any phone banking, spoken to your neighbors?

Real people have emotions, not sites.

I don't think people hate either one of the candidates. Most people have too much to do just keeping their lives together. Political junkies may say they hate. But people involved in the real thing are too professional to take it personally. Clinton and Obama could end up on the same ticket.

Edited on Wed May-21-08 04:06 PM by texshelters
This writer knows nothing about what I do, where I go, or that I do make calls and talk to people face to face. Why are people in such denial about the hate for Obama? I called Texas and had some very racist reactions to my support for Obama. I have talked to "Democrats" in my town who hate Obama. Why assume people you know nothing about "sit in their cahri all day. What a hateful response. It's just more proof of intollerant "progressives" who think they know better than the rest of the world. No wonder the Democrats can never get anything done.

And I agree with you. I live in a repug, RW town, and there is probably more who would say Obama is likable than not, particularly among the younger-than-40 crowd.

I have talked to people who are apparently of Rove's little e-spam list, who think Obama is a muslim, won't salute the flag, swore in on the koran, etc. The three I have talked to who believed that were all older, and used the "n" word within a few minutes of talking. Not much hope there, I will admit, but that's a fairly quiet and fading minority.

16. People like and dislike Obama for irrational reasons sometimes.
I've read posts that said, "I jut don't trust him!" Posts that said how disgusted the posters were with looking at his face, etc. Those are irrational responses and have nothing to do with policies.

On the other hand, there ARE some who like Obama because of some vague feelings he gives them.

You'll find a few remaining of the former on DU, and even fewer of the latter too.

In the real world, pockets of people don't like him because he's black and they're racist. That's a fact, unfortunately. Either that, or they're republicans (same thing, i guess)

Most who hate Obama on DU hate him because they conflate the candidate with his supporters, which is ALSO an irrational response. Very few on here hate him because of policy differences. Those who do are often splitting hairs, since many of his stances are similar to Clinton's.

AND LASTLY, (sigh), there are a dwindling few on DU who hate him because he's a man and HRC is a woman. These people number in the teens (and that's a high estimate), but are much more vocal than their numbers indicate.

He has now run a hugely successful organization with a big budget and kept it balanced. He has plenty of experience. He's been a legislator for 11+ years. His wife is not running and she made a gaffe. Big deal.

Your disgusting and bigoted commented about his "muslim background" is beyond the pale.

He is not a socialist- I'd be pleased if he were. Socialism has been successful in many countries, including in Scandanavia and other parts of Europe.

35. No hate, but you made up some "facts" about him
Number 3 is not true--you don't know what part of the process made her proud

Number 4--he is not Muslim, and why should that matter? Is that a secret form of racism? Black father, Muslim, Obama Muslim, bad Muslim, bad! Why are you afraid of someone who might have Muslim blood. I would be as worried having a mother from Kansas, that Intelligent Design state.

Number 5--what socialism? You are confusing socialism with communism here. Socialist enterprises you might hate:

8 hour day, minimum wage, OHSA, health inspections, students grants and loans, public schools!, etc.

And all those failed socialist states, in Europe like Sweden and Norway and Germany. Damn those socialists!

all of which the muslim invaders committed for several centuries.

So have most all other religions. There are a few that haven't, but then they usually don't call themselves religions.

AND HE IS NOT MUSLIM, so that arguement is BS.

How many ways can I say that Obama is not Muslim. Not all Muslims are violent and hateful and that is just a racist stereotype. So why do you hate your own people?

38. Hahahaha!
"1. He has the least political experience of any candidate in recent memory" - WRONG

"2. He has never run a business, never mind even unsuccessfully" - AND? (Is that your measure for a president? A businessman?)

"3. His wife has never been proud of America until Barack got the lead in delegates" - Great. I won't vote for her, even though you're taking a quote out of context.

"4. He has muslim background (this goes back 13 centuries of conflict with muslims of my forefathers)" - Oh my! A "Muslim background"? Do tell!

"5. He is for socialism which has failed in every country where it has been tried" - REALLY? He's for socialism (not true) and socialism has failed everywhere? (Also not true)

Come back when you can post shit that isn't stupid.

One of my best childhood friends was a muslim.
Of course Barack is really not a muslim. His father was.
But it is hard for me to accept even the son of a muslim
as the ultimate leader of my country, the great USA.

105. Why is the US so great?
Is it because we can kill the fastest and the most?

This kind of nationalism is dangerous, and it leads to racism. His father is Muslim? So? Clinton's father was a life-ling Republican and organizer on College campuses. So, we shouldn't vote for her.

Here's another racist statement your comment made me think of: "I'm okay with blacks, but I wouldn't want my daughter marry one." I have a muslim friend, but I wouldn't want a son of a Muslim running the country? Tell your friend that, and see what he thinks.

111. Prior to his election in 1912
Woodrow Wilson had been the Governor of New Jersey for two years.
That was the sum of his experience in elected office.
Yet he guided the US to victory in World War I, women gained the right to vote, progressive ideals were realized and the 14 Points changed history.
Did the progressive Democrat Wilson have enough experience prior to taking office?

67. Hate? No.
Support? No.

Why? Because he is not experienced enough. Because he has not been in the Senate long enough. Because there are too many unknowns. Because the right wing nuts will slaughter him. Because his soaring rhetoric is phenominal, but not substantive enough and not enough to win the WH against the Republican machine. Because he promised the voters of Illinois that he would complete at least one term in the Senate. Because there is no way he did not know the true beliefs of Rev. Wright. Because of Michelle. Because he is the darling of the media and the media cannot be trusted.

87. Sometimes it may not be true,
but most of the time it is. I have somepeople who voted for Obama. Some because of me and some because of Hillary being too much for the gays (they saw her one speech where she was addressing them). Guess what, even these people are afraid of what will happen if Barack becomes president. Why are they afraid? Because of old outdated steriotypes they have tagged African Americans with. These are people that are close to me and they still make me sick. As do any of the other Americans who still believe a Black man should not have the power of the presidency. JMHO

Edited on Tue May-20-08 08:52 PM by rebel with a cause
admitted it was because of race. Imagine how many of them did so but didn't admit it. Unbelievable, but then from those I know it is very much so.

As far as Kentucky is concerned, it will go for the republican in the GE anyway, so who cares.

110. I don't think many Democrats hate him. I think Republicans don't like him. And I also think that a
lot of lifelong Democrats, who have voted the party line all these years, have acquired a pretty firm dislike of some people who call themselves "Obama supporters." It's not the candidate, it's the people who, in his name, hurl insults and invective, some of it sexist, some of it ageist, at Clinton AND her supporters in a bid to "support" their candidate. Like you, they don't want Obama to be President, not because he's a "bad" guy, but because they think their candidate is better and way more qualified for the office. There's no hate going on.

I don't think Obama feels the same way those so called "supporters" of his do, but they sure aren't helping him communicate his message.
