Obama DID Win The BIG STATES!
Edited on Wed May-21-08 12:52 AM by demwing
...when compared to John McCain.

In fact, in very nearly every primary/caucus contest where Obama lost to Clinton, he absolutely CLOBBERS McCain's total from the corresponding Republican contest. The only exceptions are in McCain's home state of Arizona, and it's neighbor Nevada! (Also, the Repubs do not have a primary in New Mexico until June 3rd, so it didn't get counted).

This puts a stake clean through the heart of the lie that Obama cannot win the GE. Barack Obama WINS even where he loses!

Here are the comparative vote totals, per state:

AK
Obama - 80,774
McCain - 45,663 (One of Obama's worst losses, but here he stomps Mac!)

AZ
Obama - 191,681
McCain - 254,333 ***McCain win***

CA
Obama - 1,890,026
McCain - 1,093,560

IN
Obama - 630,399
McCain - 319,610 (A tight race against Hill, a route against Mac!)

KY
Obama - 209,771
McCain - 253,966

MA
Obama - 511,887
McCain - 204,027

NH
Obama - 104,772
McCain - 88,466

NJ
Obama - 492,186
McCain - 310,427

NV
Obama - 4,773
McCain - 5,651 ***McCain win***

NY
Obama - 697,914
McCain - 310,814

OH
Obama - 979,025
McCain - 636,256

OK
Obama - 130,087
McCain - 122,748

PA
Obama - 1,046,220
McCain - 587,210

RI
Obama - 75,115
McCain - 17,468

TN
Obama - 250,730
McCain - 189,443

TX
Obama - 1,358,785
McCain - 709,477 (Democrat Primary results only! Caucus not counted!)

WV
Obama - 91,747
McCain c - 89,782 (Another major loss to Hill/defeat to Mac!)

Oh Yeah! I LOVE the smell of landslide in the morning!

2. The GOP race was wrapped up after Super Tuesday, making poor comparisons for many of these contests.

3. Not at all! If McCain was uncontested, he should do better
in this virtual contest against Obama.

8. That is intellectually dishonest.
Turnout goes way down in a primary when the race is decided.

Democrats still crushed Republicans in terms of turnout while the race was still contested, this the correct arena to make such an argument.

10. Oh Please ! How Intellectually Dishonest Is It for Hillary To Claim She Can Still Win This?
Or that Obama cannot?

This puts that lie to rest - Obama will CRUSH McCain.

And when you add to it the fact that McCain will lose part of his base to apathy, and part to Bob Barr, the numbers look evem more promissing.

11. Take off the rose colored glasses.
This will be a hard fought razor thin election, to think otherwise is foolish.

13. I agree it will be hard fought
But fate is conspiring to hand Obama the presidency on a gold plate.

McCain is rapidly aging. Eevery day he's less coherent.
The party does not support him, and apathy will play a part.
Many conservatives will vote for Barr.
Obama raises money like nobody's business
Obama brings new voters into the mix
Obama puts purple states into play
Obama is pure on the war
Gas is overpriced

etc.,etc...

6. Then Hillary was right.
She said it would be wrapped up by Feb 5th, but I don't think this is how she saw it ending.

4. Excuse me, but since Winconsin 2/19, HRC has beat obama in
total votes and delegates. Now that should in and of itself tell whomever is going to vote for bho that he cannot win. Never has a so called presumptive nominee lost this late and lost states this damn big in votes.

20. Using "bho" all the time is a slimy way to address him.
It makes sure you're alluding to the "Hussein" in his name to try to use it as some sort of racist wedge.

Two extra letters and you can write O-B-A-M-A. Obama takes a whopping 5 letters to the three needed for "bho". Stop trying to wedge people with his middle name.

5. Add 60% of Hillary's supporters and it's over the top
60% because approximately 40% of her supporters have said they won't consider voting for Obama if he wins.

12. I'm hoping for 6 in 10 Hillary supporters to come over.
Edited on Wed May-21-08 01:12 AM by casus belli
It might be optimistic, but I think after the party's had some time to mull it over they'll realize what's at stake and rally behind Obama. 4 in 10 may be a lost cause, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

14. You do realize that many Republicans stayed home from some primaries, because the
race had already been decided, don't you?

You do realize that there's crossover voting going on by the GOP in support of both D candidates, don't you?

Apparently, you don't.

The map on the upper left corner of this website is nowhere near as sanguine as you seem to be: http://www.mydd.com/

15. You do realize that many Republicans will stay home because of a deep apathy
caused by their disatisfaction with McCain as a candidate, don't you?

You do realize that there's crossover voting that will occur in favor of the Libertarian candidate Bob Barr, splitting the conservative vote in key states, don't you?

You do realize that Hillary's numbers in the primaries were artificially inflated by Operation Chaos voters don't you?

You do realize that a solid percentage of the True Blue Hillary vote will translate into a percentage of the Obama vote in the GE, don't you?

Apparently you don't.

16. You would be well advised not to COUNT on that.
Those chickens have not yet hatched. And they very well may not.

And don't count on that "solid percentage of the True Blue Hillary vote"--unless you're talking about a number that's well under HALF of the total who cast their votes for Clinton, with the remainder going to Popeye.

I'm telling you, here in "true blue" Massachusetts, this place will have to be FOUGHT for if Clinton is not the candidate. And that's just the truth. Same with NH. They aren't "givens." That's money that won't be spent in a traditional battleground state.

Apparently, you don't see that. And if McCain is elected, as he very well might, I'll hold the people who insulted and denigrated Clinton responsible for it.
