LAT: Money shocker! Hillary Clinton's campaign debt soars to $31 million
No wonder Sen. Hillary Clinton was so late filing her required campaign financial reports Tuesday night. Her political team didn't want the shocking news in it to overshadow her lopsided thumping of Sen. Barack Obama in Kentucky.I owe how much!? Hillary Clinton's Democratic presidential campaign discloses she is now nearly $31 million in debt

Now comes the morning after, pay-up time. Clinton's campaign debt has now soared to nearly $31 million, according to numbers crunched early this morning by The Times' campaign finance guru, Dan Morain.

She added another $9.5 million in unpaid bills to venders this past month alone, pushing her total debt to venders and herself to the new astronomical figure, about a 50% debt increase in one month.

According to a campaign release put out Tuesday evening as election returns revealed her big win in Kentucky and loss in Oregon, Clinton raised "approximately $22 million" from other people in April. The release also touted that $10 million had poured in within 48 hours of another lopsided Clinton victory over Obama, that one in Pennsylvania, and said it was the second best fundraising month of her entire campaign.

But the number collected is actually closer to $21 million and the release also neglected to mention that she spent $28.9 million, nearly $8 million more than she took in. She used personal loans to make up part of the difference. She also delayed payments to consultants. Including the $9.5 million in unpaid bills from April, she owes consultants and other venders $19.5 million.

Not to mention the total $11.4 million she has loaned herself.

p.s. Slinkerwink was right! All you naysayers owe her an apology.

51. No, she was wrong
And when MaddyMcCall and I said so, people DEMANDED we apologize.

Well, we were right. I don't see any apologies. NOTE: I don't want or expect one. I just think it's funny how you guys demanded one when you thought we were wrong. Now that we've been proven right, crickets.

I was called a "douche" in this thread - he was quick to throw insults when he thought I was wrong. Now he knows I'm right, and just silence. Not one lick of intellectual honesty in the bunch of ya.

5. Not according to the AP.
Edited on Wed May-21-08 06:00 AM by Maddy McCall
But Clinton reported only about $8 million cash on hand for the primary. (She has $22 million set aside for the general election that she can't use.) She also reported $19.5 million in debts, including $10 million she has lent her campaign. Even without the loan, Clinton was in negative cash position. The loan amount also did not include an extra $1.4 million she put into her campaign in May.

Clinton did not add to her debt to vendors, who include such campaign consultants as Mark Penn and Mandy Grunwald. But she had to ramp up her spending, with a majority of it devoted to traveling and getting her message to voters. She spent more than $9 million on ads alone.

http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5iU_P23eyGmxqE8EEa7ba6r86BpIwD90PT1680

So she's basically maintained her debt load at 11 million, if you crunch the numbers.

hillary does. And what a crock that her loan to her pathetic failed campaign was an investment in us. She couldn't run a GE campaign any better than she's run a primary one.

Hillary is done. Stick a fork in her miserable campaign.

33. clinton's campaign is sucking up a lot of money that could go to the DNC
The DNC is way behind on fund raising, but the GOP is way ahead.

Senator "reinvent the Goal posts" is diverting money that could be spent
on making sure we get a DEM in the whitehouse.

She also is dividing the party as she encourages attacks on Obama
and encourages her "hard working white voters" to support the republican candidate.

35. I'd almost say we have a DUzy winner here. But not quite.
Allcaps, plenty of grammar and spelling errors, and a blatantly communist inspired avatar of Clinton; this would be hilarious if it was making fun of freepers. But it's not. It is attacking a fellow Democrat and her supporters. I have enough respect to not mock Clinton supporters in such a manner.

that someone else saw Dan Abrams' "afterhours" coverage on MSNBC last night, when he asked the Clinton advisor "I'm going to ask you something that may...offend you. Shouldn't Hillary Clinton feel badly about asking people with not a lot of money to give HER money?" (for anyone who missed it, the Clinton Advisor also said that "600 million people" voted in Michigan.." )

31. She thinks she will be able to issue her own currency, and borrow $ from China
to pay her deficit spending.

Has there ever been a major candidate besides Hillary who so thoroughly lacked the economic sense to run a country?! She can't make change or balance a checkbook. She has no concept of finances or how to manage them. That's what a life of privilege does for one.

48. OK
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/florida/election_2008_florida_presidential_election

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in Florida shows McCain attracting 50% of the vote while Obama earns 40%. Last month, McCain led by fifteen points. This is the third Florida poll in four months to show McCain with a double digit lead. Just 57% of Florida Democrats say they will vote for Obama while 27% plan to vote for McCain.

In the unlikely event that Clinton wins the Democratic Presidential Nomination, she leads John McCain by six percentage points in Florida, 47% to 41%.
