http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0508/Clinton_compares_the_Florida_and_Michigan_fight_to_civil_rights_movement.html

Somebody please tell me this isn't true. Please tell me that she isn't comparing her fight to overturn the DNC's decision to the abolitionist and suffrage movements.

5. Exactly - comparing her struggling candidacy to slavery - SHAMEFUL
How in the HELL does one honestly try to compare a political party's nominating process to the enslavement of an entire group of people?

9. Seems like that 'lowest of the low' keeps getting lower
I suppose the only thing that's really left is for Hillary to compare her plight to the Holocaust. Sure, it seems ludicrous to think that could happen. But hell, who would have thought that she'd be reaching this low?

a history of fighting for peoples rights to count, just as it should do in this situation.

12. Not a comparison?
In your own words: the party has a history of fighting for peoples rights to count, just as it should do in this situation.

That's a comparison. And sorry, it does not cut it. Each political party sets its own rules for choosing their candidates. Hell, you won't even find any mention of political parties in the Constitution!

Swing low, sweet chariot...

43. I don't remember either Hillary or Bill fighting for the disenfranchised in 2000 or 2004
Where were they when Florida mattered to our party in 2000?.?.?

Where were they when Ohio mattered to our party in 2004?.?.?

So, I guess they are only concerned about the fight if it concerns them. I certainly don't remember them doing anything.

23. Perhaps she'll become the next Harold Stassen
every 4 years she'll announce she's running for president.

By the time Stassen died there weren't many left who remembered that he had once been called the "Boy Wonder" (in admiration, not as a jest. He even resigned as Minnesota's governor to join the service during WWII). To many he had just become a tired old joke.

20. Ben Smith is right. This is a "last-gasp" effort by Clinton to prolong her campaign.
Edited on Wed May-21-08 04:10 PM by flpoljunkie
Note the use of the phrase below, "fully value your votes." That means no compromise from the Clinton camp on Florida and Michigan. Good luck with that, Hillary!

If Democrats send a message that we don't fully value your votes, we know Sen. McCain and the Republicans will be more than happy to have them. The Republicans will make a simple and compelling argument: why should Florida and Michigan voters trust the Democratic Party to look out for you when they won't even listen to you."

And, this..."select a nominee who truly represents the will of the voters..."

“To do so would undermine the very purpose of the nominating process: to ensure that as many Democrats as possible can cast their votes, to ensure that the party selects a nominee who truly represents the will of the voters, and to ensure that the Democrats take back the White House to rebuild America,” she said. “Now I’ve heard some say that counting Florida and Michigan would be changing the rules. I say that not counting Florida and Michigan is changing a central governing rule of this country, that whenever we can understand the clear intent of the voters, their vote should be counted.”

33. Don't Hillary supporters ever get tired of continually having to defend her?
No matter what she says or does - whether it's telling outright lies about Bosnia or this, you folks are right there defending her! Even though she trails Obama in delegates, popular vote, superdelegates, and fundraising, even though her actions are putting the Democratic Party in danger of defeat, you just can't help it.

At least our candidate is WINNING, no matter how you stack it up!

There's no backing away from such a statement. None at all. To back away is to destroy herself; to not back away is to destroy the party.
