Raw Story: Clinton may take delegate fight to convention

Contrary to media reports the past week, the Democratic presidential battle may not be coming to an end just yet, even if Senator Barack Obama has pretty much sewn things up after gaining a majority of delegate votes in Tuesday's primaries.

Hillary Rodham Clinton says she is willing to take her fight to seat Florida and Michigan delegates to the convention if the two states want to go that far. In an interview with The Associated Press, Clinton was asked whether she would support the states if they continue the fight.

The presidential candidate said Wednesday, "Yes I will. I will, because I feel very strongly about this."

Clinton is calling for delegates from both states to be seated at the convention based on the primaries. Both states were stripped of their delegates because they voted early, violating national party rules. Clinton won both states; Barack Obama's name wasn't on the Michigan ballot.

The DNC's rules committee will hear an appeal on May 31.

.....

"I believe the Democratic Party must count these votes. They should count them exactly as they were cast," Clinton told the crowd of around 700, according to the Palm Beach Post.

So will this be the excuse to take it to the convention??? Does this mean she won't accept any compromise on Florida and Michigan on May 31st? If she's hell bent on taking this to the conevention then for sure she's out to destroy the DNC and split the party.

4. Even the supers may not be able to stop this.

Terry McAuliffe hinted on MSNBC this morning that since the supers can always change their minds right up to the time of the convention, just because Obama gets enough super delegate endorsements to put him over the top that doesn't mean that Clinton would concede.

My God, these people know no shame. I wish there would be a way to drum them out of the democratic Party for good.

5. EXACTLY. She will appeal any decision other than complete seating, exactly as cast. And
that appeal puts it through to the convention.

2. At the risk of sounding sexist...
I respectfully disagree with Clinton on this point and would not support her in this effort.

God, when did I turn into such a chauvinst cave man?

8. The following is my hope, and even still my expectation
This is all part of hard ball jockeying for strategic leverage in negotiations prior to the DNC meeting that will resolve this issue. With the Obama campaign already on record supporting a compromise that meets Clinton's concerns more than half way, it would be suicidal for her threat to actually come to pass in light of that. We will all know soon enough.

10. "count them exactly as they were cast," ?!? Never mind Obama wasn't even ON the ballot in one state?
Get a grip woman - you agreed to the rules before the votes were cast. :grr:

This is a page out of the republican playbook if ever I saw one. "Rules? What rules? The rules only apply when they favor ME"

18. Don't lie. The DNC asked no such thing.
They agreed not to campaign there. That was it. All lived up to that except Kucinich who actively campaigned there.

16. They'll seat half the delegations. Hillary's message with then be muted.
She could go to the convention and ask for a symbolic vote of support for her, like Kennedy in 1980. But that's all it would be. After June 3, she would basically have to stop her campaign.

Rules committee or some such thing. Otherwise why stay in and continue to rack up debt?
