Veep Selection For Dummies
Edited on Wed May-21-08 07:20 PM by msallied
1. Nominee chooses running mate before convention.

2. Both go to convention.

3. The delegation gives separate roll-calls for Presidential nominee and VP nominee. The VP roll-call is typically viewed as a formality.

Done.

Now, if the Prez nominee chooses someone way outside the party establishment, the delegation could vote for another person to be on the ticket, but given the number of highly qualified runningmate candidates available to Barack Obama, the idea that his selection will be ripped from him just because Hillary Clinton is pissed off that she didn't win the Presidential nomination is exceedingly absurd.

Just because a loser can "demand" something does not mean that the loser will get it. If anyone believes that Hillary Clinton can become the VP nominee just because she holds her breath and demands it is delusional and/or the unwitting victim of ass-hat talking points.

And I also find it highly objectionable that anyone would think that Barack Obama should be allowed to have less influence over the selection of his running mate or ANY of the aspects of being a Presidential nominee just because he was in a close primary election with his opponent, or that he would have any less influence over the selection of his VP than any other previous Democratic candidate. That's not the kind of attitude we want to have toward Obama if we expect to be able to win this thing in November.

1. Watching Countdown...I think the VP will be Webb
I think a lot more people in the media are saying this now and since the Hill asked him a week or two ago when he flat out said no, he seems to have backed away from that position to now saying that it is the nominee's choice. I think Webb's going to be the pick.

2. Who wouldn't accept a VP slot?!
Except maybe Al Gore who's been there, done that.

5. I'd be fine with that, for the most part...
I think he'd be good in bringing in the more conservative wing of the party. Isn't he pro-life, though?
