CBS: Clinton Desperate to Count Votes, Compares Fla. Primary to Zimbabwe
It's hard to know where to begin. Zimbabwe?? Obama supporters and Zimbabwe? Say, isn't that (gasp) in AFRICA? You know, Africa.

(nudge nudge wink wink say no more . . .)

But Wait! There IS more!

From CBS News' Fernando Suarez:

SUNRISE, FLA. -- Desperate to get attention for her cause to seat Florida and Michigan delegates, Hillary Clinton compared the plight of Zimbabweans in their recent fraudulent election to the uncounted votes of Michigan and Florida voters saying it is wrong when “people go through the motions of an election only to have them discarded and disregarded.”

“We’re seeing that right now in Zimbabwe," Clinton explained. "Tragically, an election was held, the president lost, they refused to abide by the will of the people,” Clinton told the crowd of senior citizens at a retirement community in south Florida . . .

. . . In just one day, Clinton has used a variety of arguments to convince her party to seat Florida and Michigan delegates, going as far as comparing the struggles of the voters in Florida and Michigan to those of abolitionists, suffragists, to the plight of Zimbabweans. Clinton even warned that if a resolution is not reached, Democrats in these two states would feel abandoned and likely jump ship to Republican John McCain.

“I think people across Florida and Michigan are thinking to themselves,‘Well if the Democrats don’t want my vote, maybe John McCain and the Republicans do?’ We can’t let that happen,” she told the small crowd . . .

46. I agree. Where the hell are the SDs?
I was expecting a flood of Obama SDs after he won the PD majority, maybe that is coming.

35. OK......I've avoided these fights ALL THIS TIME but
Enough is enough. This woman is off her rocker. I can't believe I'm even thinking that about her -- I was always a supporter and defender of the Clintons.

But no more.

12. Yep, FrenchieCat, any last vestiges of decency and sanity left her campaign today.
Abolitionists, suffragists, slaves who sought to be free, those killed by machetes in Zimbabwe. All those who fought and suffered to vote - all cheapened by Hillary Clinton today.

Keith was right tonight. Does ANYONE believe she would have given the same speech had the situation been reversed, and Obama was making the arguments she is making?

Anyone? She went to a point where she can no longer turn back today. She is obsessed to the point that I think she is going to lose it. And soon. Maybe she already did, today.

11. I just mentioned this in another thread
Edited on Wed May-21-08 08:49 PM by ErinBerin84
I was kind of predicting that she would compare the election situation to Florida in 2000, even though I think that it is an unfounded comparison. But the "tragic" Zimbabwe election? It didn't quite offend me as much until I saw the exact coverage of her referencing it. My god. She just goes so over the top. She couldn't just compare it to Florida in 2000. She has to invoke Zimbabwe. WHAT THE FUCK. I agree with someone above who is beginning to lose their patience. That really crossed the line with me today. Her former press secretary Lisa Caputo was just on Dan Abrams saying that it was an appropriate comparison, and the response from everyone, even Dan, was like "Are. you. fucking. kidding.?" Roy from the Huffington Post said "So much for not embarassing superdelegates."

14. Tragically an election was held, the candidate lost, she refused to abide by teh will of the people
Sorry, but she's the one saying she should be the nominee despite being beaten at the ballot box. This comparison has been on my mind for days now, but I didn't want to insult her by comparing her to Robert Mugabe, who is a true scumbag. However, since she chose to bring it up, in order to make a political point, I no longer feel any hesitation at pointing out the parallels.

31. I had a vision....
January 20th 2009 a U-Haul van pulls up to the backgate of the White House. A guard goes to investigate. THe driver says, "Open up we are here to deliver the new Presidents furniture". The guard says in a tired voice, "Mr. President as we have told you again and again and again. The Senator didn't win the election and isn't the President." From the passenger seat a loud voice pipes up, "OH YES I DID!".

26. I think she wants to take the party down with her in a Wagnerian cataclysm.
I thought she had gone too far before, but there was some room to pull back.

I don't see that anymore. I see her taking us all down with her, in some cataclysmic Valkyrie, Wagnerian ending.

It's gotten that bizarre. How else to explain these quotes?

I don't underestimate her. But I am starting to think she's actually nuts. No other way to explain these quotes. Geez.

being out there in 2000 demanding the votes be counted. It might have made a difference for Gore since Bill was still prez.

37. Her first Senate election
Edited on Wed May-21-08 09:29 PM by Patsy Stone
was the same day as that Presidential election. It seems like she was flippin' Gore off in the rearview as she high-tailed it back to Chappaqua to pack up the house.

According to this 2001 article: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2000/11/10/politics/main248645.shtml she was hating on the Electoral College, and "waiting" to see who the winner of Florida was. Not doing too much about it, though.

And if you remember the compassion forum, she still won't admit Gore lost because of Republican tricks, but because "large segments" of the population didn't get his elitist ways. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/04/13/AR2008041302461.html

Blech.

Fuck off.
