MCain adviser OKs sexist anti-Clinton attacks
And to some Clinton supporters, it's Obama who's the "sexist". And they even want to vote for the guy who called his wife a cunt in public and is planning the same for "their girl". Do we have aliens walking among us? On their planet, do the unicorns bite?

http://www.alternet.org/blogs/reproductivejustice/86090/

Here's what McCain adviser Alex Castellanos said when CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin broached the issue of anti-Clinton misogyny, using a joke reprinted in the New York Times to illustrate the point. (The punchline of the joke labeled Hillary Clinton a "white bitch."):

"And some women, by the way, are named that and it's accurate," adding of Clinton, "(S)he is a tough -- that tough lady, tough in politics, that's been her great strength. But let's face it, she can be a very abrasive, aggressive, irritating person, and a lot of voters, I think, see her that way." (MediaMatters)

Castellanos advises the McCain team on advertising. That's right, the father of the modern campaign attack ad is shaping John McCain's advertising--when he isn't going on CNN as a contributor. Castellanos is known for the infamous "White Hands" spot and for Bob Taft ads so misleading they were illegal. Another Castellanos claim to fame: Getting fired by Jeb Bush for negative advertising.

1. Thanks.....
..."Sweetie". You're right, no Obama supporter has ever called the "power hungry bitch of a fucking whore" a power hungry bitch of a fucking whore. What were we thinking? Those letters just happened to randomly fall into place to spell it out, and the intent was never there.

<http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/05/14/AR2008051403090.html>

Excerpt:
I will not miss seeing advertisements for T-shirts that bear the slogan "Bros before Hos." The shirts depict Barack Obama (the Bro) and Hillary Clinton (the Ho) and are widely sold on the Internet.

I will not miss walking past airport concessions selling the Hillary Nutcracker, a device in which a pantsuit-clad Clinton doll opens her legs to reveal stainless-steel thighs that, well, bust nuts. I won't miss television and newspaper stories that make light of the novelty item.

I won't miss episodes like the one in which liberal radio personality Randi Rhodes called Clinton a "big f....g whore" and said the same about former vice presidential nominee Geraldine Ferraro. Rhodes was appearing at an event sponsored by a San Francisco radio station, before an audience of appreciative Obama supporters -- one of whom had promoted the evening on the presumptive Democratic nominee's official campaign Web site.

l will not miss the deafening, depressing silence of Howard Dean or other leading Democrats,
who haven't publicly uttered a word of outrage at the unrelenting, sex-based hate that has been
hurled at Hillary. Among those holding their tongues are hundreds of Democrats for whom Clinton
has campaigned and raised millions of dollars. Don Imus endured more public ire from the political
class when he insulted the Rutgers women.

Would the silence prevail if Obama's likeness were put on a tap-dancing doll that was sold at airports?
Would the media figures who dole out precious face time to these politicians be such pals if they'd compared
Obama with a character in a blaxploitation film? And how would crude references to Obama's sex organs play?

There are many reasons Clinton is losing the nomination contest, some having to do with her strategic
mistakes, others with the groundswell for "change." But for all Clinton's political blemishes, the darker stain
that has been exposed is the hatred of women that is accepted as a part of our culture. Marie Cocco

So yeah, I see where you're coming from. :sarcasm: Thanks.

3. Letting the conservative whackjobs off the hook yet again?
Those are the folks behind the nutcracker and the t-shirt. And it's Hillary et al that are kissing the butts of those folks, from Scaife and Murdoch to Buchanan and Faux News, so I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that you are following her lead in privileging these sociopathic shitstains over actual Democrats like Obama and Dean. They should have come out with a public stance against this crap and introduced it to a far larger audience than it had already? Jeebus.

and Randi Rhodes isn't part of Obama's campaign.

2. I guess only Democrats matter when it comes to labeling behavior sexist
I hope when some Hillary's women supporters are through finding a sexist woman or man on this side of the aisle that they can strike pay dirt as they move to the Republican side of the inclusive aisle.

5. That wasn't the point of the OP at all
The point was that the sexism is coming from the Repukes, not the Dems.

10. That dogwhistling, while reprehensible, does not relate to the OP
Which is that there has been sexist crap like the nutcracker directed at Clinton for a long time, well before her campaign began. It is coming from the rightwing whackjobs, not from Dems. Just because that vileness exists does not justify indirect appeals to racicm, of course.

8. I don't believe that we've seen the sexism yet. At all.
You want to see sexism? Let's run Hillary as our nominee.

11. We Expect It From Republicans, and Are Prepared to Hit Back and Go Just As Low As They Are
Edited on Thu May-22-08 09:11 AM by Crisco
It's other Democrats who would tie our hands and keep us from fighting fire with fire against the Obama campaign, lest their golden boy get bruised.

I'm sorry you don't understand the frustration.

12. Excuse me, but the sexist crap is coming from Repukes
Clinton is looking more like Patty Hearst every day, kissing the butts of her former tormentors Scaife, Murdoch, Buchanan, etc.
