Mittens, Bobby Jindal, and Charlie Crist invited to Grandpa McLoon's Memorial Day BBQ
Don't have a link on this, but it's been all over the radio this morning. The obvious implication here is that Grandpa is vetting his potential running mates. You'll notice that all three are governors.

McLoon and the repukes understand what I have been saying all along, that two senators on a ticket is suicide. And the Obama camp cannot ignore that reality. So enough of this Jim Webb/Joe Biden/enter your favorite senator here talk when it comes to VP. Let alone Hillary.

Gonna need a governor to counter this move by the GOP.

that I've heard here in Wisconsin.

5. this was Wonkette's take on that
Edited on Thu May-22-08 12:17 PM by ErinBerin84
"Also, Jindal was born a Hindu, which is basically a Muslim, except the opposite, and now he is a Catholic anyway, like Ted Kennedy.

The bottom line is that Mitt Romney will weasel his way onto the Republican ticket and then smother John McCain with a pillow his first night in office"

You KNOW how pissed off the Huckster is that he will be left out of this weekend's BBQ reindeer games. I think Huckabee is going to binge on some ribs, make a McCain sock puppet, and re-enact the time he and McCain double teamed against Mittens in the debate, just to make himself feel better about being left out of the party.

edit: Ok, I completely forgot about Huckabee's penchant for BBQ squirrel. Maybe that is why he was excluded. BBQ squirrel is a little too exotic for the palattes of the rest of the VPS. So, I change Huckster binging on ribs to binging on squirrel.

7. I'd look for the Huckster to run in 2012.
With more success than this go-round. I believe the lunatic fringe will move farther right rather than toward center.

9. Maybe Huckster will invoke the wrath of the religious reich??
Despite the endorsement of Hagee & Parsley, the Unchristian Coaliton types probably aren't going to be all that happy with Grandpa picking either:

1) Mormon Mittens

2) Hindu turned Catholic Jindal (both considered polytheistic religions by the fundies)

3) "confirmed bachelor" (and we all know what THAT means) Crist

Maybe I should watch the 700 Club tomorrow just to watch Pat Robertson's head explode?

10. Okay, so no senators, so I've been looking around
It depends on what will be the most important issue, and if Romney will be the GOP VP candidate, then we will need someone with both economic/business in addition to foreign policy experience.....So far I've got this list of non-senators & available politicians:

John Edwards
Mark Warner
Bill Richardson (qualified on many fronts)
Strickland (degree in ministry)
Tim Kaine (I forget his background experience)
Wesley Clark (degree in economics & experience in military)
Schweitzer (would be good for the rural farm voters at least)

I can't think of anymore right now. Any other ideas? Anyone know of an available politician experienced in economics and foreign policy?

12. Insight into what McCain is thinking?
Charlie Crist: I think he's considered moderate by R standards (correct me if I'm wrong). He could help with Florida, which is critical. The RW base might not like him, though, especially with all the gay rumors. Plus, there was some kind of scandal where he intervened to prevent Lou Pearlman from being prosecuted. Since Pearlman is now in the news again, this might be a little too embarrassing.

Mittens: He might mollify the RW a little bit. Then again, they hate him almost as much as they hate McCain. His name might help in Michigan a little bit. Massachusetts will never vote for McCain in the general. I think he's just there for appearance's sake.

Bobby Jindal: This one is interesting. Having a young minority running mate could give McCain political cover to launch racist attacks on Obama. ("How dare you call me racist! Just look at my running mate/new best friend!"). It would help neutralize the old white man attacks the Dems could hit him with, too. Also, it would inevitably steal some of the media adulation that Obama will get as the first non-white major party nominee. Again, the RW won't like it, but it makes a lot of sense against Obama. If McCain picks Jindal, I think his campaign could become a real threat.

17. OK, I've heard that too (Hardball, I think) Who will do the most damage to us?
I agree with Tweety last night and think it's Mittens.

GOP will probably win Florida anyway and Mitt will give them some of the industrial states in the Midwest and East(Ohio and Michigan and possibly PA).

I hope Romney ain't the choice.

20. I think Jindal would make McCain look even older
He needs to pick someone young enough to reassure voters but not so young to constantly remind voters that he's about 173 years old.
