Any DUers going to the DNC Rules Committee meeting on May 31st?
I heard it's open to the public, but good luck getting in!

At a hotel someplace in Washington D.C.

I assume the meeting will be broadcast live on one of the C-SPAN channels?

1. I am hoping Obama supporters do not attend
I hope Obama makes a request of his supporters to stay away.

Clinton supporters are planning to protest, I understand, which I think will work against their candidate.

I think it could be a combustible mix. I wouldn't want anyone to get hit over the head with their own pot or pan and the temptation might be too great and they will get the kind of publicity they want to damage Obama.

What do you think?

4. tough question

I read on some DU post yesterday that of the declared committee members, 13 are for Clinton and 9 are for Obama. I think the remaining folks have not publicly endorsed a candidate.

Obviously, Obama folks should be concerned that the process will not be partisan. So if it becomes a circus, I'd prefer Obama's folks stay above the frey. But if partisan party bosses are tempted to reverse the original rules that they (the DNC set), and vote against the wishes of Howard Dean, and the will of the pledged delegates - we sure as hell better have some damn good fighters in the mix.

8. I would expect campaign legal staff to be there during the process
Also, Obama's committee members combined with DNC committee members can form a bloc in the DNC's interest, if needed. It's not necessarily true they will all be on the same side on every item, but they do provide a brake on the Clinton committee members.

I'm more concerned about the audience behavior than the committee itself.

11. do you really believe that this isn't already decided?
It is. No way would the Obama camp be coordinating with The DNC to put their people in place in anticipation of the general. Obama has started a search for a vp. You don't do that unless you KNOW you've got it.

Obama isn't concerned. Why are you?

3. I heard Ed Schultz say it was an open meeting and something about getting a press pass
But I stand corrected on the "open to the public" part.

I do wonder if there will be live coverage from inside the meeting room?

6. I understood it was open to the public
With limits such as no political posters, banners, etc.

12. From the excellent Democratic Convention Watch blog:

"According to the Regulations of the Rules & Bylaws Committee for the 2008 Democratic National Convention, Reg 1.7:

Official meetings of the RBC shall be open to the public.

That doesn't mean that anybody can get into the room, but it does mean that the press can be there at the RBC meeting on May 31."

...(I)t's allowing the public to attend...(T)he press can be there...Space is limited and guests must pre-register...."In order to maintain the decorum of the meeting, banners, posters, signs, handouts, and noisemakers of any kind are strictly prohibited. Also, please be advised that the agenda for the meeting does not include time for questions from the general public."

Hopefully, C-SPAN will be filling in the cracks.

10. FYI, for anyone thinking of going, their trick is to bring stickers.
To get around this.

I'd actually consider going. I love mundane bullshit like this. But I guess this will be hardly mundane.
