Just out of curiosity; what would happen if Michigan and Florida
delegates were allowed to vote on their own (essentially making them the equivalent of superdelegates)? I'm curious to know what DUers (especially those in MI and FL) think might happen. Would Clinton or Obama get most of the delegates' votes? Would either receive a majority (I assume some delegates might still vote for Democratic candidates other than Clinton and Obama, but not sure)? Would it be close? And finally, would such a vote have any impact on the final determination of the nominee (I'm thinking it probably wouldn't because I'm assuming, admittedly without any solid evidence, that the delegates would split their votes pretty evenly)? I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who might have some knowledge about who the delegates are in those states and whom, as a group, they might be likely to support.

2. I was not so much suggesting such an approach
I was just curious what would happen if the delegates from those states were allowed to choose.

3. I expect that if they had the powers of the SDs
they would vote like the SDs.

6. Boy, do I feel like a dumbass
I asked the question assuming the delegates were the same people regardless of how the votes were tallied, and that those people were essentially required to vote in accordance with votes in the the primary; I guess I won't be working for any campaigns too soon.

7. Nah. Each campaign has a slate of delegates, and the votes determine how many they can send.

Those delegates are free to do whatever they like, technically, so they're picked for their loyalty.

No worries, it's a pretty complex and arcane process; I don't think many of us here really bothered learning the ins and outs before this campaign :)
