Sexism or just criticism?
There is real sexism out there, and Hillary's been on the recieving end of it, and it's not pretty. On the other hand, in some cases, Hillary supporters may be too quick to pull out the sexist label. I think it's important to distinguish the true sexist comments from the ordinary harsh criticisms that all politicians are subjected to. So here's the test I propose.

If a criticism is really sexist, then we ought to object regardless of who is being criticized. So in order to make sure that personal sympathy to Hillary doesn't affect our judgement, let's take a woman that we can all agree to dislike: Ann Coulter.

I think the standard should be, if you wouldn't object to a certain criticism when it is directed at Ann Coulter, then you can't call it sexist if it's applied to Hillary Clinton. Or, conversely, if you think a certain criticism of Hillary Clinton is sexist, then you also need to call it out when it is directed at Ann Coulter.

And not just in this thread. And not just during this primary season. I mean everywhere: anyplace, anytime. If a comment is sexist, we shouldn't tolerate it just because we don't like Ann Coulter.

So here are some of the kinds of comments that have been made about Hillary Clinton and/or Ann Coulter. Some are probably sexist, some probably not. But whether it's Hillary or Ann shouldn't change the "sexistness". So be honest. How many people here do you think would voice objections to the following comments if they were directed at Ann Coulter?

DISCLAIMER: I am not endorsing any of these statements about EITHER Ann Coulter OR Hillary Clinton. These are just comments that I've read or heard from various sources.

1) Ann Coulter wears ugly blue pantsuits.
2) Ann Coulter is not feminine.
3) Ann Coulter has an annoying "cackling" laugh.
4) Ann Coulter needs to shut up.
5) Someone should slap Ann Coulter.
6) Ann Coulter needs to stop whining.
7) Ann Coulter reminds me of the Glenn Close character from Fatal Attraction.
8) Ann Coulter is a bitch.
9) Ann Coulter wears too much makeup.
10) When Ann Coulter shed those tears on TV -- that was a calculated move.
12) Ann Coulter is cold and manipulative.
13) Ann Coulter reminds men of their nagging wives.
14) How could any man stand to be with Ann Coulter?
15) Ann Coulter uses her sexuality to forward her career.
16) Ann Coulter is a bimbo.

OK, now let's switch to Hillary:

1) Hillary Clinton wears ugly blue pantsuits.
2) Hillary Clinton is not feminine.
3) Hillary Clinton has an annoying "cackling" laugh.
4) Hillary Clinton needs to shut up.
5) Someone should slap Hillary Clinton.
6) Hillary Clinton needs to stop whining.
7) Hillary Clinton reminds me of the Glenn Close character from Fatal Attraction.
8) Hillary Clinton is a bitch.
9) Hillary Clinton wears too much makeup.
10) When Hillary Clinton shed those tears on TV -- that was a calculated move.
12) Hillary Clinton is cold and manipulative.
13) Hillary Clinton reminds men of their nagging wives.
14) How could any man stand to be with Hillary Clinton?
15) Hillary Clinton uses her sexuality to forward her career.
16) Hillary Clinton is a bimbo.

Did you get the same score both times?

2. So what you are basically saying is that Hillary Clinton is a
cold, manipulative, whining, cackling, nagging bitch, who looks like a clown and the ruler of North Korea, reminds you of a psychotic, homicidal stalker and needs to shut up? That's lovely and not at all sexist. :sarcasm:

3. Unacceptable sexist language regardless of which woman you apply it to -
and - none of it has anything to do with the issues that either woman espouses.
