Obama 'juggernaut' itching to tackle McCain - going to "overwhelm" him
http://www.theage.com.au/news/us-election/obama-juggernaut-itching-to-tackle-mccain/2008/05/22/1211182999307.html

SENATOR Barack Obama has established a battle-tested 50-state grassroots organisation and fund-raising "juggernaut" that will crush John McCain in November, according to his senior advisers...

...But they believe that the ferocious fight Senator Clinton has put up has helped them build an organisation of unprecedented strength. "I don't think John McCain realises what he's in for," said one adviser. "We've created a juggernaut," said another, "and it's going to overwhelm him."...

...Joe Trippi, a Democratic consultant who pioneered some of the successful grassroots and internet techniques when he ran Howard Dean's campaign in 2004, said Senator McCain was already in "deep, deep trouble" because of a poor organisation and an anaemic fund-raising total of about a fifth of the $US500 million ($A519 million) raised by Senator Obama and Senator Clinton.

"Obama's got the strongest organisation in history because of what he's done with the internet and plugging volunteers into the paid organisers' operation. McCain's team is in a shambles. He has no organisation and no grassroots fund-raising operation," Mr Trippi said....

...Senator Obama has quietly begun to take over the Democratic Party.
Paul Tewes, who masterminded the Iowa victory in January that stunned Senator Clinton, is expected to run the party during the general election...

..."We've become a very tested organisation," Obama communications director Robert Gibbs said. "We've built organisations in every place in this country."

17. Yep. Just like Kerry did in '04, Gore in '00, Clinton in '96 and '92...
The Democratic party in an election year becomes the chief weapon for the nominee.

4. Just look at yesterday . . . for example. The new GI bill.
Obama speaks in the Senate in favor of it, "honors" John McCain's service and does what is right. McCain, on the other hand, doesn't bother to show up for the vote, issues a nasty statement that has nothing to do with the G.I. bill and, in the end, tells the veterans to essentially go to hell. If that's not a commercial, I don't know what is.

6. The key will be getting the troops out there
to quash lies about the Democrats that you know they will throw out. Obama has been spot on with refuting claims immediately, setting the example for all of us. The other thing to look out for is voter suppression and fraud, which we also know will happen. I don't expect the Dems to roll over and play dead this time, but to fight on every front.

10. Luckily there are enough soldiers who have stepped forward now
Something they were less likely to do in 2004, and I think Obama should let them speak at his campaign stops. He needs to show that he'll have the support of our military.

11. Bush and Crew at the Dept of Defense.
Posted a warning to all active duty soldiers about appearing at campaign rallies. My best friend is engaged to a Captain in the air force and he blew a gasket when he got the order.

20. That's nothing new
This applies to all federal employees while on duty or in uniform. I don't think the order is not to appear at politcal rallies, it's not to appear at politcal rallies while in uniform.

7. Too bad his supporters have basically driven away half of his potential voters
If anything will wreck Obama's chances, it is his rabid base.

8. Try to get out more. The majority of Obama supporters aren't hanging around DU.
Most of them are no different than Hillary supporters out in the real world. Both supporters are going to vote for the nominee of the Democratic Party. They're voting on the nominee, not his or her supporters.

9. I'm old enough to recall Reagan's rabid base.
Rabid bases are helpful for victory.

My recommendation to the sour grapes individuals who rail against Obama's rabid base: Lead, follow, or get out of the way, because we're steamrolling to victory in November.

13. the opposite is true as well
Hillary's "rabid base" drives away half of her potential voters in the event she gets the nomination. Or maybe the foam from your mouth gets in your eyes and you can't see that.

22. Obama is willing to kick McCain in the balls--i.e. on veterans' issues
That shows me something for the months ahead. More of this, please.
