Original message
Please Read
Barack Obama will be the democratic nominee for president. In November, he will be elected President of the United States. In 2012, he will be re-elected for a second term.

In his eight years as President of the United States, he will work with the Congress, governors from fifty states, mayors from hundreds of cities, and citizens from communities across the country, to help rebuild the foundation of our Constitutional democracy.

During that time, there will be some people who dislike him, call him names, and attempt to keep him from accomplishing his legislative goals. But I promise you that at the end of those eight years in office, our country will be in the best shape it has been for many a decade.

Relax, watch the news, listen to Bob Marley, and enjoy the start of the weekend. Everything is okay. Everything is going to be okay.

Peace,
H2O Man

I was too late getting out of work to get there early, and it was pouring. But I did wave at the arena as I passed. I saw the rally at home, on the couch, streaming on CNN.

good vibes to Obama. When former and current presidential contenders are making references to Obama's death by assassination, I think we need to a few moments and send out good thoughts and vibes and prayers for well wishes.

We need to have his win be greater than any other so we can beat those electronic voting machines. We also need to get out and canvass door to door for Obama to help spread the truth. There is a lot of people who just watch the MSN (propaganda).

Obama is more qualified and more deserving than Hillary or Edwards. Sorry Steve that you don't like him. Well, really no I am not sorry, I really don't care.

200. It begins with qualities endowed at BIRTH!
Continues through the moral ethical code you learn from your family! Continues with your own, growth maturity process, educational, travel experiences....... the amount of soul searching, self actualizing you do!
Which experience is more likely to generate early soul searching, having a critical Republican Father, or being abandoned by your Father, to be raised by your very strong, ( morally & ethically) Mother?
Only then can you apply the "resume" part of the equation. How many years in state legislation, working in non profits etc.!
( or on the Walmart Board, being first lady, Senator)
I think Hillary has been too busy achieving to be reflective enough.
Ov=bama not sure I think so
Kucinich very clearly sothe man is pure truth!
If you have ever had & raised children, you can see very clearly that they are their own entities at birth. It is up to the parents to nurture and support those innate qualities. Unfortunately too many parents try to fit their children into their prechosen template, whether it fits the child or not.
I saw a TV program ( on link) where 2 sociologists, one from Africa, talked about child rearing methods. The African told of how her entire tribe, watched the child, for their talents and abilities. Then the entire tribe steered the child toward being that being. That makes SO MUCH SENSE TO ME! My parents raised us that way. Being AMericans they missed widely on some accounts, but all three of us are great "out of the box thinkers"!

49. AMEN BROTHER!!

Let's get together and feel all right.
Hear the children cryin' (One Love!);
Hear the children cryin' (One Heart!),
Sayin': give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;
Sayin': let's get together and feel all right. Wo wo-wo wo-wo!

Let them all pass all their dirty remarks (One Love!);
There is one question I'd really love to ask (One Heart!):
Is there a place for the hopeless sinner,
Who has hurt all mankind just to save his own beliefs?

One Love! What about the one heart? One Heart!
What about - ? Let's get together and feel all right
As it was in the beginning (One Love!);
So shall it be in the end (One Heart!),
All right!
Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;
Let's get together and feel all right.
One more thing!

Let's get together to fight this Holy Armagiddyon (One Love!),
So when the Man comes there will be no, no doom (One Song!).
Have pity on those whose chances grows t'inner;
There ain't no hiding place from the Father of Creation.

Sayin': One Love! What about the One Heart? (One Heart!)
What about the - ? Let's get together and feel all right.
I'm pleadin' to mankind! (One Love!);
Oh, Lord! (One Heart) Wo-ooh!

Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;
Let's get together and feel all right.
Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;
Let's get together and feel all right.

58. Everything will be okay. I think you're quite right.
This weekend, I'm going to help my son fix his car. I'm going to spend some quality time with my elderly dog and my elderly mom and together, we'll go to the grocery store and have a nice chat.

Then, I'm going to walk with my wonderful wife, my partner for life. We'll go out for breakfast. I'll call my daughter, talk with my son in law, and we'll work in our front yard planting some native plants.

This temporary rancor will be over soon enough; I appreciate your grounding influence, H2OMan, I really do.

Nature at this time of year is especially spectacular, and we fully intend to enjoy it.

Thanks for making sense.

68. I've been telling everyone I can...
that I believe that Obama has the potential to be the best president of my lifetime (45 years, give or take a few) and possibly of the past 100 years or more. That doesn't mean he will be, circumstances beyond his control will certainly have an effect of his presidency, and could even derail it. But, if he is able to lead this country in the direction I believe he wants to, and accomplish some of the ideas he has laid out for us, and operating with what I am expecting to be a clear majority in both the House and the Senate, I think 2009-2016 may prove to be magical years. He will face hurdles and unforeseen circumstances for sure, as any President does, but I am hopeful that he will rise to the challenges as they present themselves, and show the world that the US government of the Bush years was an aboration, and that we can again be a country to look up to, with a good and generous heart. I am also hopeful that his successful presidency will go a long way towards improving race relations in this country. Just think how great it will be if at least some of the ignorant people who refuse to vote for him based solely on the color of his skin, who are probably also disproportionately affected by the terrible economy we are in, are at the end of his first term, once again bouyed by the hope that there is still an American dream. Yes, I have great hopes for his presidency, as long as Hillary and Bill don't somehow keep it from ever happening.

73. We are witnessing a power struggle
between the power brokers who don't want to lose their grip and the power of a candidate who is fueled by small contributions from individuals who haven't had a say for many years. Obama himself said that this would be his only run, before they "boiled all the hope " out of him. This is the people's chance to make a difference. Btw, his speech on Cuba today was very refreshing.

Edited on Fri May-23-08 06:29 PM by onehandle
The effects of Bush's tragedy will only get worse and no one could make a difference in one term.

The next President will be blamed and may fall in 2012.

I hope not but Jimmy Carter was a victim of this effect.

111. Jimmy Carter was a Reagan victim
Reagan was working undercover to cause Iran not to talk to Carter. I have forgotten most of it, but I found out recently just how it was done.

by the way, KO just made his special comment to Hillary and named almost every one of her and Bill's doings during this campaign. His rage somehow helped me to vent.

I have been pretty disturbed about this comment, and what it means to have a candidate do this, and in a bad place about what can be done to get above nonsense like this.

Alas, any more and I get the dreaded "Error. You have already recommended this post" message!

I believe you are a very wise man. I think the potential is there, like it has not been for a very long time. Obama was not my first choice. My first choice didn't even run...Al Gore, breaking my heart again for the second time. But I have come to believe Obama is exactly what we need, and that he will excel at the job. I also think he must be one hell of a chess player, to judge from the way he has run his campaign!

110. I remember when we used to sit In the government yard in trenchtown,
Oba - obaserving the ypocrites
As they would mingle with the good people we meet.
Good friends we have, oh, good friends weve lost
Along the way.
In this great future, you cant forget your past;
So dry your tears, I seh.

No, woman, no cry;
No, woman, no cry.
ere, little darlin, dont shed no tears:
No, woman, no cry.

Said - said - said: I remember when-a we used to sit
In the government yard in trenchtown.
And then georgie would make the fire lights,
As it was logwood burnin through the nights.
Then we would cook cornmeal porridge,
Of which Ill share with you;
My feet is my only carriage,
So Ive got to push on through.
But while Im gone, I mean:
Everythings gonna be all right!
Everythings gonna be all right!
Everythings gonna be all right!
Everythings gonna be all right!
I said, everythings gonna be all right-a!
Everythings gonna be all right!
Everythings gonna be all right, now!
Everythings gonna be all right!

So, woman, no cry;
No - no, woman - woman, no cry.
Woman, little sister, dont shed no tears;
No, woman, no cry.

I remember when we used to sit
In the government yard in trenchtown.
And then georgie would make the fire lights,
As it was logwood burnin through the nights.
Then we would cook cornmeal porridge,
Of which Ill share with you;
My feet is my only carriage,
So Ive got to push on through.
But while Im gone:

No, woman, no cry;
No, woman, no cry.
Woman, little darlin, say dont shed no tears;
No, woman, no cry.

Eh! (little darlin, dont shed no tears!
No, woman, no cry.
Little sister, dont shed no tears!
No, woman, no cry.)

142. I'm sorry, H2O man, but your prediction...
...seems entirely premature and carries far too much certainty. There is no way you can reasonably predict what you've predicted. Are you claiming some sort of clairvoyance? I'm frankly shocked at this from someone usually so level headed. Have you really drunk the Obama kool-aid?

145. It is a positive image for us all on an evening when a positive image is much needed
There is nothing negative said about anyone really in this thread by H20. That is a very good thing. That is the point. That is the future I want to live through, and it is a future that most any American, certainly most any Democrat, should feel happy forseeing. Let's forsee something positive. It's fine for you or anyone else to forsee an alternate positive reality, but tonight this one seems appropriate for many of us to share together.

155. oh, I get it, it's an affirmation, not a prediction.
the problem is you have to believe in obama first in order to be able to partake, i.e., one could substiute hrc in the statement and it would be just as beuatiful an image, right. perhaps H2O man should step in and say if this is a prediction or an affirmation or if any postivie affirmation has an equal value to his (yours). Frankly I am not a fan of anyone who wants to "reach across the aisle" to bush's friends in order to heal anything. the whole thing smacks of sycophantism and soft-headedness. and don't get me wrong, i like positive afirmations as much as the next guy. this one just doesn't sit right with me.

here's my positive affirmation: kucinich 2008!

202. Okay, I'll try.
I looked at your profile, and saw that you enjoy the guitar. Maybe I can use that as a vehicle for my explanation.

I had a nice phone conversation with one of my best friends yesterday. We were co-workers for many years at the local mental health clinic, something that I think you can appreciate can be stressful work at times. We used to find ways to relax after some of the "community-based crises" we dealt with. I could tell some stories .....

Anyhow, my friend always wanted to learn to play the guitar. Sometimes we would sit around and play different Beatles songs, etc. He also wrote a few verses, and I always encouraged him to go with it. Recently, he wrote a song about his late father and brother, and his son-in-law, a professional musician, recorded it. My friend told me yesterday that his son-in-law called to say that a production company is interested in using it in a movie. I think it is of that quality, but admit that I'm not entirely objective, being his friend and having lost my father and one brother, as well.

If it does get play, lots of people will like it. They will interpret it from their own frame of reference. What it means to my friend may or may not be the same as how others might hear it.

Yesterday, there was a comment by Senator Clinton, regarding RFK's death. People heard it from their own frame of reference. For many, it was painful to hear, because of the recent news on Ted Kennedy, and the 40-year aniversary which approaches. RFK was a significant figure in many of our lives.

My post was simply my response to what Senator Clinton said, and the reaction of DUers here. It is likely to be intrepreted differently by many people: while some people might like it, others obviously disagree strongly with it (or anything I say on DU). That's the way it should be.

What my OP means to me is of no more, or less, significance than what it means to anyone else. But it appears that the majority of people who responded do understand what I said.

You mentioned Dennis Kucinich. I can't speak for him, of course, but what I hear from him is that we need to work together. No single Chief Executive can resolve the problems we face as a country. We need a president who respects the Constitution, the intended balance of powers in the federal government, and who will work with Congress, governors, mayors, and who respects the need for active citizen participation in our political world. I believe that is something that Kucinich and Obama share, and I have not reached this conclusion by drinking "kool aid." That suggestion only means that others are coming from a vey different frame of reference than I, because the truth is that I came to my position only after taking a long and objective look at Obama and his personal history. There are, of course, areas where I disagree with him, but I think that he has good judgement, political skills, and is attempting to do what he believes is best for the country. More important, however, is my firm belief in the basic goodness of human beings, which leads me to my thinking that the American people at the grass roots level are going to be the primary agents of change in the upcoming eight years.

Good Vibrations GALORE to you, H2O Man!

:patriot:

And thank you for this post.

MAN - whotta day. Plans this evening got up-ended by a brake failure (in bumper-to-bumper traffic - if it had to happen, I'm SO grateful it was then - when NOBODY could go more than one mile per hour, not just me!!!). I was glum. Must be just about the start of Mercury Retrograde. But MAN-OH-MAN... After the misadventure Hillary Clinton had today... I'm grateful to have the "problems" I do.

THANK YOU for the uplifting post, H2O Man!!! I think we all need it. And I think we all need to fixate on such a message - that begins with "Relax," and ends up with "Everything is going to be okay."

Thanks. I needed that. A LOT.

240. Yes. Understood - and thanks for the "out" date. I wasn't sure about that one.
Astrologer friends have told me about Mercury Retrograde and how best to cope, and many of them have also advised me that the "cusp" of each period, the last few days before and the last few days after, and the first couple of days into and exiting - there's a "wobble" effect that is sometimes in evidence. So you sometimes get the effects beforehand and start fading out before it's completely over.

June 19th? Thanks! I'm making a note of that. VERY good to know!

:toast:

BTW - I've also been advised multiple times along these lines that if you've already started some project or undertaking BEFORE Mercury Retrograde formally begins, you're okay. The trick is making sure you GET IT STARTED BEFOREHAND, to avoid any adverse impacts that would be in play if you began something in the thick of it.

Merc retro is a good time for completed things started up. Astrologer friends have told me for months that as we approached June, HRC was going into a rough time that will continue through the summer. Same for McBush. His free ride may be over. I'll be watching for him to have a long 'hot' summer.

248. From your mouth... and all that.
Yeah, friends of mine call it "old business" time - when Mercury goes retrograde that's the time to take care of old business, clean out the closets, tie up loose ends, etc.

I HOPE to God that mcsame's free ride is over. Despite what many people believe, he has NOT been thoroughly vetted. And he's showing some of the same sneaky-ass manipulative tendencies that we've suffered through with bush - as far as secrecy and media manipulation (waiting til the eve of the long holiday weekend to release his medical records and then only allowing a select few reporters three hours without cameras or copying).

253. Re: Retrograde
Apparently on election night 2000 merc was retrograde and you saw the mess that became. So fast forward to election night 2008 and there is return of that to the exact degree. It means what was taken (stolen) from you is returned. Which means either Gore (which is why I thought he had a shot) or the party.

As to McSame. I am suspicious of that 3 hour release. A friend's daughter who works with the elderly, in particular, stroke victims, but isn't into politics saw him on tv at an event. Her immediate comment was that he's had some level of stroke at some point.

263. Thanks! A return of that effect? I hope you're correct. I'd HATE the thought of another
round of election-stealing. GAWD...

And as for the limited access to the medical records - it just stands to reason that something must be fishy in there. Otherwise why would he be so stingey about coming out with it all? Just LAY THE BOOKS WIDE OPEN, john, and let anybody have at 'em. What is it that you don't want us to know? If you expect us to willingly live with you for four years, you better cough it all up now, and freely, so we know what we're getting into. But then again, not doing so IS the republi-CON way, isn't it? Dishonesty at its most basic.

OUT WITH IT ALL! NOTHING held back. NO strings attached. NO limitations. NO fine print.

How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look?
Yes, some say it's just a part of it:

216. Savior meme.
While it's nice and pretty to think that one man
can save this nation from itself, particularly
after so many vicious years of corrupt leadership
and corporofascist control.. you have to remember
what exactly has been lost and damaged.. and that's
the Constitution, the rule of law, and the mitigating
influence of other branches of the government on the
imperial presidency.

None of these things will change with Obama as prez,
with anyone as prez.

This is because the savior meme, while nice and pretty
as I said, is not viable. It's just something sitting
in America's collective consciousness due to the way we
are conditioned in a religious paternalistic society where
male authority figures become surrogates for "God."

I like to believe that somewhere deep in the American soul
is the power of the people to effect change.. to organize,
to boycott, demonstrate, march, speak out, and demand change.

Each person individually might feel the need for a savior,
but that simply won't work for the country as a whole. Big
Daddy and the corporate fascist juggernaut are not going
to save us or repair the great rents in the fabric of this
nation. Only people can... not individually but as a strong
organized resistance and ineluctable force of change.

Sue

Thanks, H20 Man.

I am still a little bit worried about the struggle to find a Vice Presidential nominee who will bring positive and meaningful closure to the ticket.

But for now, here's my opinion:

PS. It's a good sign that someone whom I felt disliked me for my opinions in the past few days -- made a very kind and welcome overture of friendship with me today here on the DU. And I have accepted this new-found "friend" enthusiastically.
