Clintons non-apology apology.
I have been pretty careful to reiterate that I don't hate Hillary Clinton. But I can tell you one of the things that I intensely dislike about her is that she has some sort of issue that makes it absolutely impossible for her to truly apologize. Ever. No weasel, no ifs. No spin.

"I regret that if my referencing that moment of trauma for our entire nation and in particular the Kennedy family was in any way offensive. I certainly had no intention of that whatsoever," the former first lady said.

IF (and I'm not saying they WERE, but IF) my references offended (YOU) then I'm sorry (that YOU were offended). Classic.

If she had just said, you know what I blew that one. I didn't fully think through the implications of what I was saying, and I definitely apologize for that. I would be golden. Seriously I would be like, "well...fair play to Senator Clinton!"

But of course that wasn't going to happen.

1. It may sound hollow because 1) Obamites automatically hate EVERYTHING Hillary says, and...
2) She did nothing wrong.

2. You know, your opinion would carry more weight if you had ever once in your life
Edited on Sat May-24-08 06:44 AM by Political Heretic
Admitted your candidate had made any mistakes, did anything wrong, or was anything other than pure as the driven snow.

See, I have done that - many times. Especially since Obama was not my first choice. I've never seen you do anything other than shill without anything resembling critical thought.

Plenty of good thoughtful Clinton supporters out there - you aint one of em.

24. I'm not an "Obamite" and I pretty much hate everything Hillary says
But not automatically. Only because she's kind of an asshole.

3. I think you should apologize to her supporters -- see, start off like her
If anything I'm about to say is OFFENSIVE to you, then I'm sorry you're such a hypersensitive weenie.

I once had a boss who told me it was my job to take responsibility for his mistakes. At first I hated it, then I realized that I could drive him insane that way, by apologizing for all the stupid shit he did and wasn't even aware of. Heh heh. It was very liberating.

Hillary should really try it sometime.

4. Why the hell should she apologize for remarks that were NOT offensive?
There was nothing offensive in what Hillary said. But you thin-skinned, paranoid, "how do we stop the bitch?" Obama supporters never miss a chance to feign outrage, do you?

So don't claim what she said WAS offensive unless you read minds. Because it wasn't.

Or at least it wasn't one-tenth as offensive as some of you Obamatrons are.

8. Sure, nothing offensive about suggesting your opponent might get killed
and that that's a legitimate reason to stay in the race. Nothing offensive about apologizing to the Kennedys, completely missing the reason for the offense. And sorry, but we're talking about the statements of a CANDIDATE, not her supporters.

10. Strangely, the entire world seems to disagree
Since the stories gone global, carried in international media. It was a thoughtless remark that has obviously offended a great many people.

6. That was a non-apology apology to
the Kennedy family. She didn't offer a non-apology apology to Obama and his family. Similar to her non-apology apology for her IWR vote or her mis-spoken non-lie lie about sniper fire or her not-promoting promotion of mcCain's qualifications over a Dem's or her non-endorsement endorsement of fox news and karl rove as legitimate news sources.

7. I agree.
I was pissed off at first. But after I watched the video like 5 times, I'm starting to think that she really didn't mean it that way. (She still didn't have to say "assassinated" though) I mean why in the hell would she bring up Obama's chance of getting killed? On video, on purpose?

I'm now more upset about apology. "I regret if people were upset" means I didn't do anything wrong. Everybody makes mistakes, couldn't she just say she made a mistake?

I can't imagine why they'd post that headline.

18. Yes, because we all know how credible those NY tabloid
newspaper headline are. :eyes:

You tell me how the New York Times is "no kinder."

Please.

The headline reads that her reference has caused an uproar which is true and it's a fair way of wording it.

As opposed to your tabloids.

headlines.

But I understand why you moved to the editorial article since I pinned you into a corner with your false statement that the NYT headline wasn't any kinder.

15. The classic non-apology apology. You hear it from politicians all the time.
Rarely do you hear "I'm sorry I did (or said) that." It's always "I'm sorry if anyone was offended by what I said (or did)." It transfers some of the blame to the listener.

19. exactly
Exhibit B: her craven vote for IWR... not that an apology can erase all the death, destruction and devastation but she could apologize for being WRONG, for not listening to Byrd or Kennedy or Feingold or Boxer on that vote!
