Obama says Clinton "stirring up" Florida controversy

By Jeff Mason 40 minutes ago

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Democrat Barack Obama accused rival Hillary Clinton on Saturday of "stirring up" a controversy over the disqualified Florida primary election because it was her last hope of winning their party's presidential nomination.

<...>

Florida's and Michigan's delegates were stripped of their rights to be seated at the party's August convention -- when the nominee is formally chosen -- because their contests were held too early in the year, in breach of party rules.

<...>

"The Clinton campaign has been stirring this up for fairly transparent reasons," Obama told reporters on the plane from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Chicago, adding she had not done so earlier in the race when she did not need the delegates to win.

"Let's not ... pretend that we don't know what's going on. I mean this is, from their perspective, their last slender hope to make arguments about how they can win, and I understand that," Obama said.

2. I agree.
Considering the fact that Hillary isn't going to be the nominee, I feel her pissing off Florida Dems against the party even more is total self-serving bullshit.

This one I'm actually pissed at her over.

That was Hillary's lie:

HRC: I don't know. I don't know. I find it curious. Because it is unprecedented in history. I don’t understand it. Between my opponent and his camp and some in the media there has been this urgency to end this. And historically, that makes no sense. So I find it a bit of a mystery.

She hates her husband, his family, and her children?? I find that VERY difficult to believe. I hope the McCain camp has a plan B. You obviously don't.

16. OK, so HRC is going from outrageous comments to "stirring up FL/MI crap" . ..????
Loved that Randi Rhodes explained that FL voters were really disenfranchised by the GOP . . .
who forced the Dems to move their primary to an "date outlawed by the DNC" . . !!!

How the hell they were able to do that I don't know --- but they did!!!

What happened re Michigan --- why did they go early on a date prohibited by the Dem Party???

44. Actually...she did.
She said that the popular vote should elect the POTUS not the electoral college. Which of course, would have put Gore in the WH.

48. the popular vote should NOTelect the POTUS . . .
because that's not how the game is played. Rightly or wrongly, it's the electoral college that determines the winner, and you can't change the rules in the middle of the game.

Florida's votes should have been recounted, and with the FL delegates in his column Gore would have won fair and square and would probably be finishing up his second term now.

Many people don't like the electoral college, and it seems now that many people don't like caucuses, but those are the systems we have to work within unless/until those systems are changed.

57. randi in this case iswrong
our state party is rife with the DLC and they voted with the GOP 115-1 to pass the date change
they hide behind a paper ballot provision in the bill

saying "how could we vote against paper ballots?"
but they did not make a "good faith" effort as required by DNC rules to oppose it
all that would have take was a small group of dems to vote no on a bill that would have passed overwhelmingly by the GOP anyway
they do not have enough dems in the state house here to have stopped it but they could have gone on record opposing it and gotten forgiveness for it fron the DNC

so they werent forced they went willingly

Clinton Campaign Statement

The following is a statement by Clinton Campaign Manager Patti Solis Doyle.

"We believe Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina play a unique and special role in the nominating process.

And we believe the DNC’s rules and its calendar provide the necessary structure to respect and honor that role.

Thus, we will be signing the pledge to adhere to the DNC approved nominating calendar."
