Hillary's Lady Macbeth strategy is her most craven move yet ... or is it?
Edited on Sun May-25-08 08:00 PM by dailykoff
By openly invoking assassination as a rationale for staying in the Democratic primary, Hillary has finally thrown shame to the winds and gone completely around the bend.

Or has she? As a matter of fact, this has been the Clinton strategy since she got soundly spanked in Iowa: insinuating that Obama could be easily assassinated by the GOP, making Hillary the more electable candidate. And to show how it could be done, she and Bill have spent the last four months demonstrating how Obama could be flattened by an unscruplous race-baiting smear campaign.

Only it didn't quite work out that way. So the segue from character assassination to the real thing makes perfect sense, as do the reminders of RFK's assassination to potential endorsers and presumably contributors.

What the Clintons refuse to recognize is that they've been rejected by Democratic voters. And by hanging on so bitterly to a failed candidacy, they've also moved from being a cartoon version of the Macbeths to the real thing.

In case anyone's forgotten the details, Macbeth is the 8th-century Scottish king who reached the throne by murdering the previous king Duncan in his own (Macbeth's) castle and then sending cutthroats to dispatch Duncan's son Malcolm and other key rivals.

In Shakespeare's version, Macbeth is goaded into murder by the prophecies of the mysterious "weird sisters" and, after he reports this episode to his ruthless wife, her encouragement.

6. And there doesn't seem to be much we can do about it.
The entourage is as ruthless as lord and lady M and apart from the DNC and the press, there really aren't any referees in this game.
