audience, and then his campaign scrubbing his gaffe from the transcript after realizing how foolish it sounded. The sort of correction we're used to with W.

Btw, re the suggestion by someone else here that he was referring to injured soldiers -- it's clear he wasn't, and his campaign wouldn't have found it necessary to revise the transcript if that had been what he meant.
