"The take I'm being given from an uncommited superdelegate" Daily KOS
Edited on Tue May-27-08 05:36 AM by mamalone
I don't know if many of you here have seen Palamedes diary from yesterday 5/26, but I thought it was very interesting with some unique insights...

<snip>
But I think what will happen is this.

Clinton and Obama will finish the remaining states and Puerto Rico relatively unchanged, save that Obama will have the majority needed, regardless of the final decision to be made regarding Florida and Michigan. (And I can tell you right now that there is still a lot of anger within the DNC over their state party heads doing what they did with their primaries. The more Hillary ratchets this issue emotionally upward, the more she may be the victim of the anger of the DNC committee assigned to resolve the situation once and for all starting May 31st, regardless of her power.)

Hillary will say she is going to Denver.

And the remaining superdelgates will say, pretty much as a united front, "No".

They will tell her "No" when she tries to change the seating for Michigan and Florida to her advantage.

They will tell her "No" on the first vote.

And after that she can rant and rave and lose forever more being anything of any value within the Democratic Party, or she will be gracious in defeat and salvage what she has left for another day.

As an Obama supporter, I want this done sooner much more than later.

But we aren't defeating a candidate - we are defeating a system that has been carefully put in place over, by my reckoning, almost twenty years. It will start to come down, and it has been coming down, but not on our time line.

And that requires patience on our part. Or in my case, at least, getting ready for the next two rounds in a very long fight. Which I recommend for all of you as well.

My two bits....

<snip>

lots more good stuff here

2. She gives us no reason to think otherwise
DLC is running her campaign. It is possible she no longer has any decision-making power in her own campaign.

3. A question....
Do you think this part here:

"But we aren't defeating a candidate - we are defeating a system that has been carefully put in place over, by my reckoning, almost twenty years. It will start to come down, and it has been coming down, but not on our time line."

is referring specifically to the DLC? That's what I was wondering myself...

5. It's possible, yes ...
The DLC rose to power after Mondale and Tsongas lost miserably in the 80's. That was about 20 years ago, so it fits their timeline.

8. Tsongas didn't lose in the 80s...
He retired from the Senate in 1985 due to cancer, before he ran for president in 1992.

11. Does the DLC even exist as an entity?
I'm not sure it ever did really exist in any tanglble form. It was more of a club -- a gang of people who banded together to drive the agenda and strategies of the Democratic Party. They certainly did that -- drove us right off a cliff. And all those players are still out there, unrepentent. But other than the ones still visible in the Hillary campaign, the rest seem to be hiding under rocks somewhere.

Being career politicians, they have given up on the Clinton campaign and are trying to position for some of the spoils when Obama takes over. That is a serious threat to what he needs to accomplish. I'm sure he is aware of that danger. Hopefully he won't feel compelled to have make of the DLC-types around his administration, and then they can just die off as the world passes them by.

13. Well.....
That may be true..or maybe not:) At any rate, I thought this was interesting as it gave us some insight into the mind of at least one of the superdelegates. I am very interested into what their thought processes are at this point, and I suspect I am not the only one.
