Why in the HELL did Hillary MOCK Obama supporters months ago?
Edited on Tue May-27-08 11:06 AM by Vote2008
I know this is an old topic but it still just bugs me.

How in the world could she think it was a smart move to make fun of Obama supporters and try to make us look like we were stupid?

The "Sky Opened Up" speech had to be the dumbest move in politics.

Can some Hillary supporter explain why she thought making fun of Obama supporters was going to help her? Can you explain one time Obama has made fun of you and said supporting Hillary was stupid??

28. You missed the point entirely.
WHY did she make fun of his SUPPORTERS? VOTERS?

I mean I understand attacking your opponent, but by attacking his supporters aren't you attacking the very people you are trying to win over?

The point is that I feel Hillary, instead of trying to WIN people over, tries to beat them over the head until they submit.

45. Ummm..... Are you freaking kidding me?
I believe Clinton's comments were making fun of THIS:

"...that a light will shine through that window, a beam of light will come down upon you, you will experience an epiphany ... and you will suddenly realize that you must go to the polls and vote for Obama" - Barack Obama

And a bonus quote, for fun.

"...That is why I am here, because Barack Obama is the only person in this who understands that. That before we can work on the problems, we have to fix our souls. Our souls are broken in this nation..." - Michelle Obama

7. Obama has never personally insulted Clintons supporters, afaik.
Nor has anyone sharing a stage with him. Its been the exact opposite of camp Clinton.

You know... thats how she proves she's so good at "fighting for us" like she promises. She fights for us by letting her surrogates (Buffenbarger) ridicule and insult us. Then she even joins in! Wheee!

Hmmm. I wonder why Obama supporters arent showering her with affection.

8. My Obama supporter wife was livid.

At the time, I argued that she had no choice: her best chance was to tear down Obama. She simply did not have the qualities necessary to win supporters by talking about what SHE would do. Not when she and Obama have the same policies about 90% of the time.

She couldn't even hold on to her own supporters by focusing on herself.

She HAD to go negative.

35. maybe
in hindsight, she would have been better off not to have gone negative.

Or are you saying that going negative is what people admire and so more came on board directly because of that in overwhelming numbers?

She seems to have "positive" appeal to a lot of people--is that only because of a willingness to kneecap her opponent? Even roller derby queens are loyal to their team. We can only conclude from her campaign that only half of the Dems are Hillary's team.

49. It's easier to make other people look worse than make yourself look better.

I think she was also working the "I'm a fighter" theme.

You know, Obama's soft, doesn't know what it's like. "Obambi" some call him.

I actually still think it was her best bet.

It just didn't work is all.

57. So you would say
that street fighter, dirty fighter is what people wanted to see? And they also bought the lie that Obama isn't a "fighter" of any kind? (What about Kung Fu fighter?)

I don't have good feel for how well this sold, this "fighter" theme (to fans of Rocky or American Gladiator?) They thought it might work for voters who wanted them to fight down & dirty with the Rethugs--but then don't they also see that you don't destroy someone on your own side --who might come back to beat you?

I just don't understand why they'd go this route. Doesn't seem like her best bet, except that they had to make her appear extra tough, being a woman in these militaristic times.

Don't they understand that being a Dem means you are NOT a Rethuglican?

Next she and her pal Stephanopolis jumped all over him him with non-issues such as the flag pin and his knowing someone who committed a crime when he was eight years old, she sent out her pal Ferraro to scold him about get that dirt off his shoulders... She can't deal with it and gets angry if he defends himself against her attacks...

You see, when Hillary directly mocks Obama and his supporters, that's okay.

But when Obama supporters take issue with something that Hillary says - oh, like for example bringing up RFK's assassination - they simply cannot tolerate that. We're mean to them. We pick on them constantly. They can't take it.

But it's perfectly okay for them to say nasty things about Obama or his supporters.

Some Hillary supporters are condescending in their belief that Obama supporters are somehow all touched with the fairy dust of the great Obama. It's childish. There are childish things on all sides, don't get me wrong, but that is one of them. The level of immaturity in national politics has trickled down to all of us really. It's hard to take all that many people serious anymore. I watch the news or the Sunday shows and I can't believe what the hell anybody says they're all so biased toward an agenda. It's even worse around here. You could say the sky is blue and if somebody doesn't want to believe it they'll sneer at you and say it's red and condescend to you about it. Ridiculous stuff. For two candidates with such minute policy differences, I have never seen such a vast gap in how their respective campaigns and supporters treat the other side. Perplexing.

It's always been Hillary's assertion that we're mesmerized over Obama's
speeches, and that we're ga-ga with pie-in-the-sky hope.

This is Hillary's strawman argument. We only like Obama because he
gives a good speech, and Obama offers no solutions--just "hope."

That speech was Hillary tearing down her own ridiculous, fantasy-based
strawman arguments--while mocking all of us.

Fuck you, lady.

38. Not a Hillary supporter, but I think it's simple: She wasn't prepared to actually have to compete
because in her mind, she was never supposed to lose.

She and her campaign were so sure they had the nomination on lock, they didn't expect to have to fight for it.

When that didn't happen, she wasn't prepared strategically or psychologically to dig in "for the long haul" as she claimed. And what we've seen since then are reactions that aren't really surprising. Hillary, and by extension her campaign, are simply acting out the anger at being bested at a game they thought they'd won before it even started.

A man as cynical, loathesome, and dedicated to the manipulation of people as Penn is, when confronted with genuine optimism and positivity, would immediately react by attacking and trying to crush it. Doesn't matter if it was the smart thing to do--it wasn't. But he (and by extention, people like him) would be obligated to try and destroy it because seeing that kind of hopeful energy would make him feel like the cynical, nihilistic pondscum that he is.
