For Barack Obama's consideration, Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg for vice president
Whether you are a supporter of Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton, the one idea associated with Obama is "Change." Obama supporters are looking for a new direction of leadership. Those who are tired of the infighting politics want something different from Washington. And Obama represents that for them.

Now we know that this infighting started with Newt Gingrich and his cronies after Bill Clinton got elected, and how the MSM finally got tough on a president (funny how it was a Democrat, after all). But the people who are fresh onto the Obama bandwagon, the true independents of this country, and those who don't vote for president on party but on the person don't really care who started it and why. They just want it to stop.

I have argued that Obama needs to send a new message in picking a vice president, to go in a direction that truly symbolizes change. And I think I found someone.

Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg

After you have stopped laughing, consider these points. (As always, this is a creative exercise. This reflects my views and not those of BuzzFlash management. It's a suggestion.)

5. Bad Idea
She had no experience in politics or foreign policy. It is bad enough that Obama himself only has four years of national and international political experience. In recent years people have seemed to want politicians with experience. If Obama takes Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg as his Vice President the Republicans will eat the ticket up with the idea that they lack the experience to deal with world issues. McCain would have more experience than both of them combined.

6. I have to admit, it floated across my mind as well....
Also that she might take over Teddy's seat.

But I agree with the posters who have stated that it's highly unlikely she'd be interested. And, aside from a "wow" factor, I'm not sure what it adds to the ticket.

Veep...a heartbeat away from the Presidency.

She's not qualified.

11. I've got a better idea. Mabel Garfield.
She's 80, and lives in a home in Ft. Lauderdale, and is President Garfields great grandaughter. I believe she's just as qualified.

May be it is time to remember we are not a monarchy.

13. Wrong Argument
Edited on Wed May-28-08 08:02 AM by erpowers
I am not trying to be mean, but I contend your arguement has a number of holes. From your writing it seems your of a new observer of politics. First, the Clinton supporters would have a great deal to complain about if Kennedy Schlossberg is given the Vice President slot over Clinton. I contend Kennedy Schlossberg, more than anyone, would cause Clinton supporters to migrate to McCain. It will not be because she is a Kennedy, but because she has no political experience at all. Say what you will about Clinton's 30 years of experience being hazzy, but everybody knows she has decades of experience in politics. I contend Clinton supporters and maybe Clinton herself would feel Kennedy Schlossberg being on the ticket is a slap in the face to Clinton and other females who got into politics with more than just a famous name.

Second, you claimed the Republicans would not be able to attack Kennedy Schlossberg "personally". I guess you missed the last few elections in which Republicans attacked Vietnam veterans, who had earned some of the highest military awards, as unamerican and compared them to terrorists. If they can find a way to attack decorated military veterans what makes you think they will not attack Kennedy Schlossberg who has not done very much.

You then bring up her uncle Edward (Ted) Kennedy. Ted Kennedy is not universally liked and he has his own personal problems. I am not talking about the Cancer issue either. There are a number of things the Republican could use to bash him.

Finally, you talk about how Kennedy Schlossberg would not have to be President. How do you know such a fact? The Vice President is there in case the President is unable to do his/her job. What happens if at some point Obama becomes unable to do his job? Kennedy Schlossberg will have to step in with no experience in national or international politics. There have been a number of times in this country's history were a Vice President had to step in after something happened to the President.

In conclusion, there are a number of female politicans who could represent change that actually have real experience in politics. If a woman is chosen as the Vice President I hope it would be one of the women with experience in politics.
