So I stopped at a red light today
So here I am driving along through a quaint little town trying to get from one side to the other. All of a sudden the light changed from green to yellow and then quickly to red. Even though I had hit every red through town so far, I instinctively stopped to allow others who had been waiting their turn to go. Waiting for the light to change took precious time out of my day and made me feel slightly enraged.

Why did I stop? Something about agreeing to rules as a condition of having the permission to drive. Even though it was a great inconvenience to my overall plan of motoring about town in a timely fashion, I did it out a trust that if everyone else follows the rules too then we will all be safer. I've seen what happens people fail to stop.

1. When did arbitrary colored lights become more important than the will of the drivers?

...to behave like a total imbecile. What on earth does freedom mean if it doesn't mean the freedom to do whatever the hell takes my fancy?

It's all about me, you see. Always has been, always will be. The rest of you are just bit players in my personal drama. So stop getting in my light.

10. "Colored?" What is this, 1960?

On the other hand, if you see a white light, it probably means you're dead. :P

8. Traffic Lights don't count!!11!1!!!11
I only recognize intersections with stop signs, because how do I know that the one car waiting at a red light represents the will of all the drivers in that town. Some nurse might have to work that day and not drive!!!!111!!

All traffic lights need to be abolished now!!!111!!!!!1

35. two guys are driving along and come up to a red light
the driver goes right through it. The passenger is outraged "What the heck are you doing?" He sputters. The driver answers "Don't worry, my brother drives like this all the time." They come to another red light with the same result and the same excuse "My brother drives like this all the time." Then they come to a green light and the driver slams on his brakes. "Now what the heck are you doing?" the passenger asks. The driver answered "I have to stop. My brother might be coming the other way."

But, then again.. i get expensive tickets that I have to pay for because I suppose I should be penalized for breaking the rules. Funny how that works.

the yellow light that preceded the Red light but was not properly represented.

Jerk face Judge told me he would cut my fine in half, but that I'd still have to pay.

They voted to codify these wacky traffic rules in the first place. Sometimes I wonder why I agreed to their rules when I applied for my driving privileges.

I can't think of any analogy that would be able to accurately describe the idiocracy as of late. Making up a metric that has no bearing on the race? Violating the rules that were agreed upon because you lost? Trying to shoot (metaphorically, I'm not crazy enough to suggest she meant she wanted him dead) the other candidate down.

40. This isn't about Hillary.
Edited on Thu May-29-08 12:49 PM by spoony
It's been made into a Hillary issue, and truly a great deal of arguments in favour of dismissing millions of Dems' votes devote themselves to complaining about Clinton, but it isn't about her.

It's about the voters in these two states being utterly and completely fucked over by their party, both state and national. It's about whether some states inherently deserve some special status to exclusive, early primaries and why on earth that is the case now. It's about voters being punished for state leaders trying to make a (valid) point about that imbalance (albeit in a stupid way), and about the national party punishing the voters for something they didn't do; for state and national leaders who refuse to yield ground in this dumb tug of war, with voters as the rope.

42. Its not about Hillary, you're right
The thing is, had Fl and Mi followed the rules, their vote would have made a huge impact on the process had they waited their turn.

Choices have consequences.

Also, thanks to Fl and Mi more states probably got to actually cast their vote, which according to Hillary, is good.

33. When I was in Thailand we would take the entire factory 400 people to the shore
for a weekend at the end of the year.

We paid the local police headquarters to provide escorts and we would pass through all of the traffic stops.

After the first year I stopped the practice. It ruined the whole weekend for me even though it saved a couple of hours sitting in hot traffic jams. I knew that it didn't save the other people who we passed any time sitting in traffic

Some people get used to the motorcycles and the traffic being stopped for them.
