Clinton Backers: DNC committee does not have to listen to the lawyers
Edited on Thu May-29-08 09:50 AM by sabra

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2008/05/29/2008-05-29_hillary_clinton_tries_to_wrest_michigan_.html

<snip>

Clinton appears to be fighting an uphill battle on the committee, though, after party lawyers released memos Wednesday suggesting a strong option is giving the states half their delegates - not enough to keep Clinton going.

But Ickes and another Clinton backer on the committee, former Democratic Party boss Don Fowler, argued the committee does not have to listen to the lawyers.

"The rules committee can do what it wants," said Fowler.

...

Sources said the campaign was still weighing how far to take its fight, but it's entirely in Clinton's hands.

Whatever the rules referees decide, she can appeal to the committee that hands out convention credentials, which meets later. Under party rules, it takes just one-fifth of that group to let Clinton take the Michigan-Florida fight all the way to the convention.

RULES AND BYLAWS COMMITTEE

MEMBERS 30

Hillary Rodham Clinton supporters: 13

Barack Obama supporters: 8

No known endorsement: 7

Co-chairs (no endorsement): 2

THE ISSUE

Whether the Florida and Michigan delegations should be seated after the states held their primaries early. Clinton won both states and wants the votes counted.

WHAT'S NEXT

If the challenges are voted down Saturday, appeals could be made to the party's 186-member credentials committee. Even if it is forced to decide on the dispute, 20 percent of the committee could file a minority report. The issue then would go before the Democratic National Convention in August.

5. Regardless of whether Hillary accepts the resolution or not Nancy Pelosi has already said this ends.
...in June...

It's over for HRC...the way in which she handles that will determine her political future...

14. Umm..if Nancy steps up and endorses Obama it is over.
So yes, she can actually 'decide' this...and has said quite specifically that she will.

22. Dude, I really don't need your blessing or your "I'm a REAL Demcorat" lapel pin.
I've already been told by the hope and change brigade that I need to be kicked out of the party along with all the other Hillary supporters, and of course, the evil Clintons themselves. Like a bunch of power-trippin' hall monitors.

My proud Democratic ass will support the great Democrat Hillary Clinton as far as she wants to take this.

13. Some of you who want this to keep going are only interested in what Bush was interested in. Winning
at any cost. You will tear country and people apart to get your "win". It makes you no different than Neo-cons. This contest is finished. Hang up your egos and stop dividing this along gender and racial lines. Hillary Clinton lost this because her campaign didn't know how to play the game. Now it's time to move beyond this and get this party united.

18. A New Round of Endorsements!
...to offset all the party leaders that will run from her like the plague if she goes forward with this.

"Today, my campaign would like to announce the endorsement of internet person Sabra. Sabra is on the internet, and the internet is where this battle will be decided. Also, Sabra now counts, according to my staff, as fifty normal delegates. Why is Seantor Obama trying to disenfranchise the angriest people on the internet?"

getting how being a member of a party works.
