62. Wexler wants him to testify
Edited on Thu May-29-08 07:39 PM by blogslut
From ABC:

Obama-Backing Congressman Wants McClellan to Testify Before Congress

May 29, 2008 2:45 PM

Rep. Robert Wexler, D-Fla. -- who has endorsed Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, and may be a superdelegate for him depending on what happens at the DNC meeting this Saturday -- yesterday called upon former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan to testify under oath before the House Judiciary Committee.

“The admissions made by Scott McClellan in his new book are earth-shattering and allege facts to establish that Karl Rove and Scooter Libby – and possibly Vice President Cheney - conspired to obstruct justice by lying about their role in the Plame Wilson matter and that the Bush Administration deliberately lied to the American people in order to take us to war in Iraq," said Wexler, who has led a campaign to hold impeachment hearings against Cheney.

Wexler said he wants McClellan to tell Congress how the Bush administration "deliberately orchestrated a massive propaganda campaign to sell the war in Iraq to the American people.”

except to discredit him, and they are trying to do that to discourage others who might be having a change of heart because of a guilty conscience...One person can be easily discredited, take a look at what they did to Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame. But if more people came out...

The book has already been written and printed, there is no stopping it, and harming Scotty in anyway would make matters worse...they really cant touch him, except to discredit him.

85. Yes, he is talking about the secret declassification of sections of an
Intelligence Report in order to discredit Joe Wilson. This is related to the Libby "lunch" with Judith Miller, part of the Valerie Plame outing, bush admitted he had secretly declassified sections of it before he did it publicly.

snip

It was in Libby's grand jury testimony, revealed publicly for the first time in the government filing, that the former White House official stated that Bush had approved Cheney's instruction to reveal portions of a classified prewar National Intelligence Estimate that they believed would bolster the administration's argument that Iraq was seeking to develop nuclear weapons. At least three reporters received that information: then-New York Times reporter Judith Miller, author Bob Woodward, and Matthew Cooper of Time magazine.

On July 18, 2003, after those three had been privately briefed, the administration publicly declassified much of the document. A striking aspect of the administration's private dissemination effort is that the information Cheney and Libby put forth - regarding efforts by Iraq to acquire uranium from Niger - had already been widely discredited within the administration.

He said he saw Bush as someone who was bi-partisan, compassionate conservative, someone who had 70% approval in Texas. He came into the WH with a lot of hope for changing Washington. It was hard to see the reality of what the Bush administration really was.

I have to admit, during his time as WH press secretary, he sometimes looked uncomfortable in the job - not as comfortable as Ari, Tony, and Dana have looked. McClellan is taking a big risk by actually telling the truth, and I'm glad he's doing it. He's bringing some stuff to light that is VERY important. It's a damned shame he couldn't have done it two or three years ago, but still... Good on him!

60. Keith bringing up Scotty's assertion that the "liberal media" didn't do its job.
Keith asks about the "conservative media" and Fox news. "What was Fox news to your administration?"

During Cheney's hunting accident, Cheney said he picked Fox news to grant the interview because all the other news sources will have to cite Fox news when talking about the story.

Scotty wanted to get in front of the story, Cheney blew it off. Cheney only gave a statement after "nudging" from the President.

68. Scotty: "They're STILL in permanent campaign mode."
Hopes that people will read the book and look at what happened with Iraq. He hopes we never make the same mistake again.

I am starting to think Scotty came out with this book to prevent war with Iran...

72. Scotty is "intrigued" by the way Obama speaks of changing Washington.
Scotty also likes some of the ways McSame has worked across the aisle in a bipartisan way.

Says he hasn't made up his mind who he will vote for.

76. John Dean says it was a fascinating interview.
Press secretaries know little, he says. They are told what the players want them to know. Says Scotty nails a few things down, though.

Says he will lose some friends and at some point, his words will be closely parsed and will be turned on him. If he is striking too close to the bone, they'll go after him. Dean says he will find out who his true friends are.

82. I must say, THIS is must see tv.
One of the most astonishing interviews with one of the men from the most secretive administrations the United States has had in over 50 years.

This is an excellent interview. I was stunned, not only by the candor of Mr. McClellan, but by the questions Keith asked, all pertinent, and yet couched in a respectful manner.

Incredible.
Simply incredible.
