I'll Be Staying Here at the GD/P Until Conductor Skinner Closes the Station Down. Anyone Else?
Edited on Thu May-29-08 08:00 PM by David Zephyr
Unlike others, I have determined to stay here at the GD/P until our Party has declared a Presumptive Nominee. I wish we had already united behind the candidate and were facing off against John McCain, but alas we are not.

And so be it. So until Skinner shuts down the station, I'm going to scoot all the way back now to the caboose and take a nice comfortable seat and watch the remaining scenery on the Obama train as we close in to our final destination this primary season.

I'm ordering a nice, cool Seven & Seven as the train sweeps past the landscape now in full forward motion and so effortlessly. It's a lovely thing.

Who else is staying 'til the last day at GD/P? Come on back to the caboose where the die-hards sit. I'll order your favorite drink, too.

1. Umm, I don't think he's gonna close it down
I think it will just revert to General Discussion:Politics like it always was before the primaries.

8. I don't think he's going to switch it until one of them drops out.
I sent him an email yesterday asking for clarification (no reply yet, I'm sure he's busy). Anywho... In the memo he posted, he added a caveat about one of the two needing to drop out. It wasn't absolutely clear if we have a presumptive nominee (someone that has his the required # of delegates prior to the convention), but the other competitor refused to drop out - whether he would shut it down or not. So essentially, when Clinton decides she's not quitting, even after obama hits the number - it's unclear what Skinner will do.

I don't drink alcohol, and I only read the threads that have a positive subject line (although I've been fooled a few times).

I'm not perfect, though. I :smoke: like a chimney. And I'm addicted to caffeine.

So, I'll just settle in and watch the fireworks at the front of the train.

28. I will be here
It's a funny thing. I was outraged when we were "condemned" to stay in this forum for the sake of the rest of DU's sanity. After the first couple of days, I could not stand the flagrant soap opera political texture here, and so I left. After two days of abstaining, I felt the pains of withdrawal, and so I waded back in. I still despised and detested some of the threads here, and I held some of the posters in contempt. Sorry, I guess this is turning into some sort of true confession. Most of those people were eventually tombstoned, so no offense intended to any current DU'er reading this post. For the first time since I have been a member here, I learned to use "Ignore" but the maximum number of people I "Ignored" was three. That's it - just 3.

But here I am months later a better political person for having sweated it out. I don't think it's possible for the true political addict to be on the outside looking in. Those of us who persevered and made it to the finish line have done a service not only for ourselves in learning and growing politically, we have also made a contribution toward steering this forum out of the skid, which those who remained on the outside did not do.

So I'll be here until the, to borrow Bill Clinton's phrase, last dog dies. And when this Forum is shut down, I'll leave proudly, knowing amazingly enough, I withstood some of the hardest of days here I have witnessed since I arrived in 2000. I do regret some of the other old timers did not stay and help steer the Forum out of the skid as well. Their help was sorely needed.

Thanks for starting this thread.

i don't know how i got hooked on GD:P, but i have to read it for at least an hour a day. i click (and 'view all') threads with no real method or purpose, just reading the same old same old, day after day... and for whatever perverse reason, GD: P entertains me (even the silly smiley that ya get when you type the :P part of the forum title makes me smile).

i have an extensive ignore list composed probably 55-45% of supporters who constantly, consistently name-call and nothing else, but have most of the most vehement posters still visible.

i don't know what is wrong with me

i'll be sipping my pinot noir and reading GD:P until it's gone. it's all good :-)
