22. In NEVER EVER used ignore before last month (been here since 6-01)

BUT..I finally HAD to.. It gets so tedious wading through all the tripe.. They all post the same old tired polls, and talking points..over and over and over..

I hope that after next week when it's more or less final, the admin will start clamping down and when a week had passed, just clear all the ignores we have..Then we can all start fresh :)

The sad part is that some long-timers have cast their lot with Hillary (for some reason), and they may never come back to being normal again :cry:

I will miss their "old-selves":cry:

Like three or something.

But still, ignore is a good way to make sure you don't write a check your remote can't cash. That list probably saved a bunch of people a bunch of drek that no one needed.

People go through sock puppets here like accounts are Kleenex. This never even occurred to me until someone mentioned it about 4 or 5 years ago. The few who have been pointed out to me, usually because of a unique grammatical idiosyncrasy, have had almost 10 socks a piece.

It's like a cottage industry on this board.

or who are CLEARLY RW tools, or who hint that they will vote for McCain in the fall. I've also started ignoring people who post RW propaganda against Obama, since I can only assume they'd rather see a disastrous McCain presidency than see Obama win. At this point, those people are trolls and don't belong here or in our party. I'm ignoring them because they have nothing to contribute to THIS conversation, among DEMOCRATS and those who support them.

It's not because I can't "handle" dissenting opinions; it's because their bullshit is at this point irrelevant and only harmful. And yes, some of them are just here to provoke, and they're not WORTH my time or energy.

There is only one on my list who is just an asshole, in my opinion, of course.

Not because I'm any better or smarter or more able to "stand up to it" than those with huge ignore lists, but because of a couple of factors which are personal to my situation.

Not long after joining DU, a long-time member here took out after my pro-Obama posts with a viciousness that curdled the pixels on my screen. Further, she posted bald-faced lies that attributed another poster's replies to me, and when posted links proved it wasn't me she simply ignored them and went right on careening around GD: P saying I'd posted/said things I hadn't. I put the linked proof in all my replies as a sort of makeshift sig-line as a result (so folks would know that I hadn't said the things she was claiming in her spammed accusations), and the consequence of that was she went batshit hysterical and accused me of "stalking" her by linking back to my own posted content. She claimed my linked post, which proved she was lying, was not mine to re-post; that since it was a post of mine in a thread she'd started, that content somehow was hers to decide what to do with, despite the fact that I was the author.

At this point, I received a PM from a very kind person who suggested I employ the *ignore* button, and I did. The problem with *ignore* - for me, anyway - came when that poster, knowing I had her on ignore, posted blatant falsehoods about me in another unrelated thread.

Fortunately, I belong to another board, a strictly pro-Obama board, and several members there have my "real world" e-mail address (they lurk at DU because they enjoy the latest breaking news, the pro-Obama posts, etc). One of them e-mailed me and told me claims - untrue claims - were being made about me by my *ignored* poster in a thread I was participating in.

This person e-mailed me the gist of those claims, every one of them false. Had that person not known both my "real world" e-mail address and DU identity, and had she not just *happened* to be lurking at DU, specifically GD: P, that claim would have stood un-refuted, and hundreds of DU'ers and outside lurkers would right now believe a patent falsehood about me (several falsehoods, in fact). That's what made me wary of *ignore*, despite the fact that I kept that POS on it.

Again, I totally understand why anyone would have a large *ignore* list: this is not a criticism of that. I'm just relating my own experience, and how that unique circumstance relates to my (singular) use of the *ignore* function.

That's a sincere, non-derogatory question. I have six. I reserve it for those I truly cannot tolerate, and perhaps only one of those is a real DU regular.

I figure the rest will do themselves in soon enough, or be gone of their own accord after the primary officially ends.

so I made a list of lists to keep...

some of those lists had to be broken down into smaller, more specific categories...

other lists of lists had to be enlarged to include narrower lists and list subsets...

about the same time... I discovered a cult in Venice Beach... we believed that if we could just get ALL of our laundry DONE at exactly the right time... in the right way... it would be the key to the Cosmos... and we wouldn't need to keep lists anymore...
