A plea to Hillary supporters
I want to make a case that if Obama is the nominee, Hillary supporters should not just vote for Obama in November, but actively support his campaign. If you've read my posts, you know I have defended Hillary against a variety of attacks that I believe were unfair. But blame Obama's supporters rather than Obama for those attacks. Granted, Obama has not always been fair to Clinton, but he has been generally fair. Granted, his campaign unfairly used race against Hillary in South Carolina, but Obama publicly took responsibility for that, and I have seen no evidence that he lied when he said that he told his campaign staff to knock it off.

Most importantly, like a Clinton presidency, an Obama presidency would represent a radical change for the better. Hillary has repeatedly said that the differences between her and Obama are minor compared to the differences between her and McCain. And Bill has given glowing praise to Obama.

At the risk of repeating too much of an earlier post, let me remind you that, LIKE CLINTON,

1. Obama would restore habeas corpus and other constitutional rights (Unlike Clinton and Obama, McCain voted to eliminate many of those rights by, e.g., voting for the Military Comissions Act);

2. Obama would move the nation in the direction of a single-payer universal health care system (the only sane system);

3. OBAMA WOULD END MAJOR COMBAT OPERATIONS IN IRAQ (McCain somehow doesn't realize that spending billions of dollars killing people is almost never a cost-effective and moral means to the end of making the world a better place; on his view foreign aid is great so long as it is really expensive and involves a lot of killing);

4. Obama would take meaningful steps to address global warming;

5. Obama would appoint supreme court justices who aren't interested in making the executive branch above the law;

6. Obama would restore America's image in the world thereby greatly enhancing our security;

7. Obama would support economic policies that do not simply put money into the pockets of the rich (Unlike Clinton and Obama, McCain Voted Against a Clean Minimum Wage Increase for Working Families. McCain voted with the Republicans in 2007 to stall a clean minimum wage increase for working families— before bowing to public pressure and voting to pass the final bill that included tax breaks for businesses. He even voted to completely repeal the minimum wage laws in 45 states and allow the other five states to opt out of any future minimum wage increases above $5.15 an hour.)

8. Obama would not ignore Africa. He joined with Brownback in Congress in leading efforts to stop the genocide in Darfur.

If Obama is the nominee, let's join Clinton in actively supporting him.

2. All I can say is:

He will have my vote. I can't say if I will do much else. Perhaps that will change in time. Right now I am a little to disgusted with his campaign to find any sort of passion needed to actively support him.

Edit: Ask me this again in July.

3. I understand your feelings
But please make all your decisions in light of the possibility of a McCain presidency.

4. Like I said
Give it some time. I'm still pretty angry. I won't even get into why on this forum.

At this point I can easily muster up anti-McCain sentiment. But not Pro-Obama.

6. I made a similar journey. You will too.
I was a huge Kucinich supporter then switched to Edwards. Obama was a distant third choice. I have come around slowly and now I can honestly say I am excited at the prospects of his Presidency.

Time heals all wounds.
