Am I the only one who still has an empty ignore list?
I've never been tempted to ignore messages from anyone, even the obvious trolls. Am I the last person in GDP who isn't ignoring anyone?

If not, please check in here!

26. What is this fascination with ignore lists?....
Edited on Fri May-30-08 10:46 AM by PoliticalAmazon
I've traveled many an internet message board an NEVER seen such obsession--and pride!!--in ignore lists! Not in this folder so much, but often folders will discuss how many people are on ignore lists.

Is this a DU phenomenon?

Personally, and I'm just talking about myself here, I seldom use the ignore lists because I don't look at poster names. I don't want to have a preconception of what someone is posting. If I do have to put someone on ignore, I see it as a failing on MY part. This is a public message board, and I should be able to handle all comers. It's a sign of weakness, IMO, to use an ignore list.

This is just for me that I'm talking. I know some people have trouble just reading a post and letting it go. In that case, an ignore list is better than using the message-board-nanny "alert" feature. So for them the ignore feature is very important for them to function on a message board.

But to brag about it? What the hell is that all about? I would never brag about having someone on ignore. First of all, it's a petty way to insult someone. Secondly, it would be like announcing to the world "Yes, I am such a pussy that I have to use ignore lists and, in fact, I am proud of being a pussy who has an ignore list."

I guess you can tell that I find these ignore-list-bragging posts offensive and in poor taste.

But again, this is just my opinion. Your mileage may vary.

I'm glad to see that so many people also don't use ignore. It is just so weird to hear people brag about their ignore lists...

33. I have 5 people on ignore.
Mostly because they resorted to abusive remarks, insults, or personal attacks instead of having a discussion.

I don't mind someone telling me I'm wrong, but when they start calling me names, or saying I *meant* so and so when I didn't, it gets old.

I've always believed you lose the ability to communicate when you resort to such tactics, and I'll admit in the "heat of the battle" from time to time I've done the same thing, but normally only after someone else has instigated it.

Eventually it gets to the point where what they might have to say means nothing to me, so I make them go away forever.

Edited on Fri May-30-08 11:00 AM by Tesha
There are plenty of people I disagree with frequently,
but I've often learned something from those disagreements
so why would I want to ignore them?

And the usual suspects? Well, I can remember who the most
egregious four or five are at any given point in time,
but even then, I don't ignore them, I just recognize
them for the disrupters that they are.

It was impossible.

I realized if I wanted to continue to build on the friendships here I would have to put all the nasty venomous posters on ignore. They were making DU unbearable. Sadly many were people I once had some respect for.

I now have probably 150-175 (to many to go count)or so and steadily climbing everyday.

48. The "ignore" function is for intellectual cowards.......
Political discussion boards are for - uh, discussing politics, especially about topics that people often disagree about.

There are people here who use the "ignore" feature because they are incapable of responding to adversarial posts. Don't agree with a post? Argue the point, if you can. Place people on ignore? Sorry, that's totally chickenshit!

If you cannot or don't want to, or you dislike a poster, scroll by.

Ooops, there I go, onto somebody's ignore list......cowards!
