Florida and Michigan not only early primaries....think about it!
It wasn't just Florida and Michigan who had early primaries and violated DNC rules. Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina also had primaries earlier than DNC rule 11 allowed.

However the Democratic Party decided only to enforce the rules against 2 of the 5 states that violated them. So why is it that the Democratic Party can arbitrarily punish 2 states and decide to let 3 other states ignore the rule? I think the Democrats are manipulating the outcome of the election and that they are not thinking about wining the general election where Florida and Michigan do count.

Marc Perkel

This has been the probem all along. The dems what to make a point and not win the general election. What good is it going to do by saying " we had the first black american as our party's nominee" and that same person went out like gore, kerry prior and lost. But if the dems would have thought and decided to go with the fighter and won the damn thing, then we all could have celebrated.....but it seems like some just want to make a statement or a point about this election. We had this election won until obambi decided he had to unite us, and just how is that turning out? Not too damn good in my opinion. Plus, we've learned that anyone who prefers experience to hope is "delusional." Anyone who prefers a proven winner to a potential winner is "losing it." Because this campaign has always been about playing dirty pool. The Clintons had to be turned into racist for Obama to have a chance.

Enjoy the weekend
Shalom
Ben David

14. To tell you the truth Gilligan
who knows and who cares-these guys were NEVER democrats anyway-they are disruptors sent here with an agenda. I called it on NJS in April-as soon as he switched his support over to Clinton after being a guy who called her every name in the book that is allowed and then he goes over and starts saying the same shit about Obama-like nobody was gonna notice.

27. SoFlaJet
I watched OMC do some very strange things. I finally had to, for my sanity, hide his threads - The only poster I have ever done that to. Then I just stuck him on ignore all together.
What was crazy was, he had so many people hoodwinked into believing his crap.

5. The obvious intent
Of the initial rules were to have the states in a preset order and to preserve the status of Iowa and New Hampshire. Once Florida and Michigan moved their dates up, the preset order was disturbed. The states changed their dates to reflect the original intent of the rules and asked for waivers. These waivers were granted, and if they had not been the states would have faced penalties or changed their dates back. This was in no way arbitrary. The DNC could not force Florida or Michigan to not hold their primaries, so the only way they could maintain the status quo was to allow waivers to the other states.

6. Yes. The doors of more than two barns were left open, But the horses escaped two.
So ... it's no longer about closing barn doors more equitably. It's about locating the horses.

They're probably hanging out with the frog that Hillary punched and the elephant farting in the forest which Obama has yet to apologize for.

18. The Dem decision was dumb -- and a competitive race made it more salient.
But the dumb decision was accepted by all of the competitors, including Hillary.

She only wants to move the goalposts after it's clear that her kick was no good.

For the future, Dem rules should be changed so that voters are not penalized for the transgressions of Dem leaders. If SDs are retained in future, one penalty could be to take away all of a state's superdelegates, while accepting all of the pledged delegates from an offending primary.

19. "arbitrarily"? I don't think you know what that means
Edited on Fri May-30-08 01:23 PM by onenote
The change in dates of the NH etc primaries/caucuses wasn't "arbitrary" -- it was pursuant to a waiver granted for good cause -- the good cause being to ensure that those contests retained their status as the first contests.

And, based on what I've seen reported here, apparently even the Clinton campaign concedes this point. Apparently you're not up to date on the latest talking points.
